The 2 Euro coin we are about to discuss was minted in 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first flight made from Malta.

On the Obverse, there is a very characteristic representation of the seaplane piloted by Captain Kilmer which, on February 13, 1915, took off from the Grand Harbour of Valletta and landed in the waters of the harbour after 55 minutes of flight. In the background, you can also see the tip of Senglea, one of the most characteristic elements of the Grand Harbour.

At the top, there is a circular inscription “FIRST FLIGHT FROM MALTA” immediately followed on the right by the arch dates “1915 – 2015”. Within the design, just below the seaplane, is the inscription “100th anniversary” while further below are the initials of the author NGB (Noel Galea Bason).
