Let's start with a truly interesting coin. Specifically, this is the 2 Euro Italy 2004 that commemorates the 5th decade of the World Food Programme.

On the Obverse, the 2 Euro Italy 2004 coin features the globe accompanied by three ears of grain representing wheat, corn, and rice, which symbolize the foundations of nutrition. To the right, the symbol of the Italian Republic is engraved, with the initials of the engraver just below.

A coin with truly significant historical value. In particular, this coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome by the six founding countries, specifically the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2007.

On the Obverse, the design of the document is depicted in the center, with the background featuring the paving of Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome. At the top, there is an arching inscription “TREATIES OF ROME – 50TH ANNIVERSARY”.

Another very important coin from 2009 is the one minted in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2009. This coin is also common among other European states.

On the Obverse, we find the euro symbol next to the figure of a stylized little man. This subject was chosen through an online competition directly by European citizens. At the top, the arching inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” while at the bottom is UEM 1999 – 2009. Above the inscription on the right is the author's signature.

We arrive at what is perhaps historically one of the most important coins in this collection, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2011. Specifically, this 2 Euro coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification.

On the Obverse, the coin features the official logo of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, consisting of three tricolor flags which represent the three jubilees of 1911, 1961, and 2011. At the top, there is an arching inscription “150° DELL’UNITA’ D’ITALIA”.

To the right is the monogram of the Italian Republic, while below, immediately under the design, is the inscription “1861 > 2011 >>” beneath which we find the mintmark and the signature of the designer.

Let's move on to another coin from 2012 that is also common to other European States, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2012 Globe. This coin was specifically minted to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Euro.

On the Obverse, this 2 Euro coin from Italy 2012 features the Euro symbol placed at the center of the globe, framed by various symbols with different meanings. For example, we see the ECB tower representing finance, factories for the industrial world, wind turbines for energy, a ship for trade, and houses and people highlighting the importance of the populace.

A commemorative coin that all poetry enthusiasts, and others, will particularly appreciate. We are talking about the coin that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of Giovanni Pascoli, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2012.

On the Obverse, the 2 euro coin Italy 2012 features the portrait of Giovanni Pascoli with the inscription “G. PASCOLI” arching below. We return with a coin, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2014 Galileo Galilei, featuring a historical figure. This time we talk about a person who revolutionized the world, namely Galileo Galilei, and a coin that commemorates the 450th anniversary of his birth.

On the Obverse, there is a portrait of Galileo taken from the work of Justus Sustermans housed in the Uffizi Gallery. Now let's move on to the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2014, a coin that does not commemorate a historical figure but rather the Carabinieri and, more specifically, the 200th anniversary of its foundation.

On the Obverse, the coin features the sculpture “Carabinieri Patrol in the Storm,” a work created in 1973 by Antonio Berti. At the base of the sculpture is the circular inscription “CARABINIERI,” while on the sides are the dates 1914 and 2014. To the right is the monogram of the Italian Republic, and at the top is the mint mark. At the bottom, near the inscription, we find the initials of the author.

With the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2015 European Flag, we return to a coin common to other European states. Specifically, this 2 euro commemorative coin was issued to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the European Flag.

On the Obverse, we find the European flag surrounded by 12 stylized human figures representing the formation of a new Europe. It is worth noting that, in this case, the design was chosen by European citizens through an online survey.

Next to it is a vine leaf with its bunch, an olive branch, and an ear of wheat, all emerging from the same trunk.

Perhaps the most well-known and important poet in Italian history is Dante Alighieri. This coin, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2015 Dante, commemorates the 750th anniversary of his birth.

On the Obverse, the coin features a depiction of Dante holding the Divine Comedy with the mountain of Purgatory in the background. At the top, in an arch, is the inscription “Dante Alighieri” with the monogram of the Italian Republic just below. To the right is the mintmark, while at the bottom are the initials of the designer and the dates “1265 – 2015”.

This time, the historical figure in question is a particularly well-known sculptor. The coin we are discussing commemorates the 550th anniversary of the death of Donatello. They are the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2016 Donatello.

On the Obverse, the coin features the head of the David by Donatello, a sculpture housed in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. At the top, we can see the mint mark, while at the bottom is the inscription “DONATELLO”. To the left, we find the monogram of the Italian Republic, followed below by the dates 1466 – 2016. On the right, the initials of the designer “C.M.” appear, while all around are the classic 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

For this historical figure, we must take an even greater step back. We are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2016 coin that commemorates the 2200th anniversary of the death of Titus Maccius Plautus, a playwright of the Roman era.

On the Obverse, the coin features the representation of two theatrical masks from the Commedia Nuova, a source of inspiration for Plautus. These are taken from a mosaic dating back to the 1st century BC, preserved in the Capitoline Museums in Rome.

On the Obverse, there is indeed a depiction of the bust of Titus Livius taken from the work of artist Lorenzo Larese Moretti. This coin, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2018, was minted in honor of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Italian Constitution which took place on December 27, 1947.

On the Obverse of the 2 Euro Italy 2018, we see represented the act of signing with Enrico De Nicola (provisional head of state) seated in the center, Alcide De Gasperi (Prime Minister) to the right, and Umberto Terracini (President of the Constituent Assembly) to the left. At the top, there is an arch inscription “COSTITUZIONE” immediately followed below by the monogram of the Italian Republic. To the left are the initials of the author “UP” while at the bottom is the inscription “CON SICURA COSCIENZA” followed by the mint mark and the years “1948 – 2018”.

The penultimate coin in this long and rich collection celebrates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Health: it is the 2 Euro Italy 2018 Ministry of Health.

On the Obverse, we find the face of a woman representing Health. This is followed by several symbols depicting some of the activities of the Ministry of Health such as research, medicine, environment, and nutrition. At the top of the coin, the inscription “MINISTERO DELLA SALUTE” is engraved, followed on the right by the dates “1958 – 2018”.

Between the inscription at the top and the design, we can also notice the mint mark. On the left is the monogram of the Italian Republic, while at the bottom are the initials of the designer.

This magnificent collection of Italy's €2 commemorative coins concludes with a historical figure known practically everywhere. On the Obverse, we find a detail from the painting “Dame with an Ermine” created by Leonardo and housed in the national museum of Krakow. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori, a commemorative coin has been issued. The coin was released on 06/09/2020.

On the Obverse, the portrait of Maria Montessori, educator, neuropsychiatrist, physician, philosopher, and Italian pedagogue, is depicted. She is the creator of the Montessori Method, known and used worldwide. The portrait is set within a geometric design composed of educational elements from her teaching method, such as the thousand cube. Her name, MARIA MONTESSORI, is inscribed below and to the side.

The €2 Commemorative coins dedicated to Falcone Borsellino were minted in 2022 and are dedicated to the Sicilian Magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. On the Obverse, the representations of the two Magistrates Falcone and Borsellino are engraved, with the inscription FALCONE – BORSELLINO above. The Erasmus Program was established in 1987 through the insight of educator Sofia Corradi and the collaboration of Domenico Lenarduzzi, who together created the conditions for this student exchange project across Europe. The name derives from Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam, a Humanist, Philosopher, and Theologian, as well as the author of The Praise of Folly.

On the Obverse, there is a depiction of Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam facing left, engaged in writing his essay, with the signature of the engraver Joaquin Jimenez JJ above. In the background, a series of interwoven bands form the number 35, and at the center of the coin is the monogram RI of the Italian Republic.
