Some pieces of the French 2 euro coins have surpassed their nominal value due to the interest of collectors, especially the Colored Proof versions from the years 2015, 2017, and 2018. Note that the colored commemorative coins minted in special boxes are the most valued; however, they do not have legal tender due to their altered state from the use of colors.

The first commemorative €2 coin from France was minted in 2008 and is dedicated to the Treaties of Rome.

On the Obverse, in the central brass section, the design features the Michelangelo-style pavement of the Capitoline Square in Rome, with the treaty signed by the six founding members in 1957 at its center.
Below, the year of minting is displayed with the symbols of the Mint Director and the Mint itself on either side. Above, centrally, the inscription reads TRAITÉ DE ROME 50 ANS in two lines. The word EUROPE is engraved in uppercase letters within the pavement.

One of the first commemorative coins from France in 2008 is dedicated to the Presidency of the European Council.

On the Obverse, within the copper-nickel planchet, the inscription is engraved in uppercase letters across 6 lines: 2008 PRÉSIDENCE FRANÇAISE UNION EUROPÉENNE RF.
The number 8 of the inscription 2008 is partially engraved on the outer edge of the coin, RF stands for République Française, and the two symbols engraved at the bottom center are the mintmark and that of the Director of the Mint. In the outer ring of the coin, made of copper and nickel, the 12 five-pointed stars of the European Union are distributed.
On the Reverse, the new map of Europe is shown, expanded to include the new countries and without borders between states.

In 2009, the third €2 commemorative coin of France was issued, celebrating the EURO itself.

On the Obverse, there is the primitive figure accompanied by the euro symbol (€).
The design was chosen through an online competition open to all citizens of the European Union countries and was selected on January 31, 2008, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). Minted in 2009 in all the countries of the European Union.
Below the design, the initials of the contest winner ΓΣ (Georgios Stamatopoulos) can be seen.

The Reverse features the Common Side for the countries of the European Union in 2009.

Here we are in 2010 with the French commemorative €2 coin dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the appeal by General De Gaulle on June 18.

The Obverse features a depiction of General De Gaulle as he reads into a microphone the appeal to the French people following France's defeat during World War II. This appeal marks the birth of the French Resistance.
The inscription 70 ANS 18 APPEL JUIN is engraved to the right of the general, while the initials RF (République Française) are found on the sheets between the General and the microphone.
The year of minting is engraved at the top of the coin between the mint and the Director of the Mint symbols.

The Reverse displays the Common Side of the European Union countries.

French Commemorative Coin from 2011 minted in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Music Festival.

On the Obverse, the central part of the coin depicts a crowd celebrating among musical notes, showcasing musical instruments beneath the inscription Fête de la MUSIQUE 21 Juin 2011. The Festival has been celebrated on the day of the summer solstice in France since 1981. At the top right in a semicircle is the inscription 30° ANNIVERSAIRE. At the bottom is the state abbreviation of the French Republic (RF).
In the outer ring made of copper and nickel, there are twelve five-pointed stars as a symbol of the EU.

On the Reverse, the Common Side used by all countries of the European Union is featured.

The 2012 marks the release of another French commemorative coin, one of the most interesting for collectors, dedicated to Abbé Pierre.
Abbé Pierre is remembered in France as the protector of the poor, being a priest who dedicated his life to those in need. He is depicted on the Obverse of the coin in casual clothing, wearing glasses and his characteristic hat.
Above is the semicircular inscription “Centenaire de la naissance de l’abbé Pierre”, and to the right of his shoulder is the logo of the foundation with the motto Et les Autres ?, below the year 2012 and the symbol of the mint director. On the left is the state abbreviation RF and the symbol of the French Mint.

On the Reverse is the Common Side of the 2 euro.

The 2012 commemorative €2 coin from France is dedicated to the Euro. The central part on the Obverse of the coin features a globe with the Euro symbol (€) surrounded by symbolic representations such as wind farms, factories, the ECB tower, ships, houses, and people. At the top in a semicircle, before the mintmark, is the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, and below it, 2002 – 2012, alongside the mint director's symbol.

The Reverse depicts the Common Side of the €2 coins.

In 2013, to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Olympic Games, as well as a historian and educator, a coin was minted in his honor.
At the center of the coin, on the Obverse, is the portrait of the sports leader with his characteristic French mustache from the late 19th century, surrounded by four athletes and the Olympic rings. At the top left, the inscription PIERRE DE COUBERTIN, below, within an Olympic ring, the state initials RF and the year of minting 2013.
To the right and left of the portrait are the Mint and Mint Director symbols, and in the outer nickel circle, the 12 five-pointed stars.

On the Reverse, however, is the Common Side shared by all eurozone countries for the 2 euro coins.

In 2013, the coin is minted in honor of the Élysée Treaties.

On the Obverse, the portraits of Charles De Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer, respectively on the left and right, with their signatures below. In the central band, the inscription starts from the top: TRAITÉ DE L' ÉLYSÉE / 50 / ANS / JAHRE / 2013 / ÉLYSÉE- / VERTRAG.

This is the Proof and colored version of the 2 Euro Commemorative French coin from 2014 issued against AIDS.

In 2014, UNESCO designed the symbol for the World AIDS Day, which is featured on the commemorative coin.

On the Obverse, there is the characteristic red ribbon, symbol of the fight against AIDS. Two additional ribbons are placed upside down, forming two V's, a symbol of victory.
In the Proof version, the central ribbon is red. Above, in a semicircle, is the inscription 1er DECEMBRE, the date of World AIDS Day, while the inscriptions JOURNEE MONDIALE CONTRE LE SIDA are distributed along the side ribbons. Below, centrally, is the abbreviation of the French Republic RF and the year 2014. To the right and left are the symbols of the Mint and the Director of the Mint.

On the nickel part of the two euros, there are, in a circle, the European stars.

The 2014 coin also commemorates the 70th anniversary of the historic D-Day landing in Normandy.
On the Obverse, in the brass part, the inscription D DAY is stylized to represent a tank and simultaneously the landing.
Above the cannon pointing to the right is the inscription 1944 – 2014, below the D is the state mark RF (République Française). Below the inscription “70° ANNIVERSAIRE DU DÉBARQUEMENT” which delineates the two graphic parts, upper and lower.
In the lower part, the lines of the poet Verlaine Les sanglots longs des violons de l’automne blessent mon cœr d’une langueur monotone are engraved, used as a code for the start of the landing. The words are inscribed following the wave that erases the footprints of the boots left by the passage of British, American, and Canadian soldiers. The symbols of the Mint Director and the Paris Mint are at the bottom under the wave.

This is the Proof and colored version of the French €2 Commemorative coins from 2015 minted for the Federation Festival.

Here we are in 2015, which sees three commemorative coins in France, one of which is for the Festival of the Federation.

The Obverse features the profile of Marianne, a long-standing symbol of the French Republic, depicted in a modern style looking to the left, wearing a Phrygian cap with a cockade. Below the cockade, the initials RF are engraved as the abbreviation for the French Republic. At the bottom, the inscription Libertè appears above the minting year 2015 and the Eurostar symbol. In the Proof version, the cockade is colored with the tricolor red/white/blue.

On the left, in an arc across four lines, are inscribed the verses of the poem Libertè by Paul Eluard: Sur toutes les pages lues / Sur toutes les pages blanches / Pierre sang papier ou cendre / J'écris ton nom. Also on the left are the symbols of the Mint Director and the French Mint itself.

On the Reverse, the Common Side of the 2 Euro coin is depicted.

Also from 2015, the commemorative 2 euro dedicated to the European Flag.

On the Obverse, it features twelve stylized figures around a single Flag, that of Europe, with the 12 stars arranged in a circle. The flag in the Proof version is Blue.
Once again, the design is the result of an online competition open to all European citizens. The winning design was then used for this 2015 commemorative coin and minted in various states with the name of the state inscribed at the top of the coin and the designer's signature at the bottom right.
In this case, there is the inscription on the right RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE followed by the dates 1985-2015. Above the head of the last figure on the right, the mint mark and that of the Director of the Paris Mint are engraved.

On the outer part of the coin, the 12 symbolic stars of the European Union are inscribed in a circle.

On the Reverse, the Common Side for all 2 euro coins.

Also from 2015, the commemorative coin minted to celebrate the 70 years of Peace in Europe.
On the Obverse, a modern depiction of a dove carrying an olive branch, a symbol of peace, is shown; the branch is made up of 12 stars instead of leaves. At the top of the coin, within the inner circle, the abbreviations of the countries belonging to the Euro Zone are listed in an arc over 7 lines, separated by dots.
Below the dove, partially overlapping, is the abbreviation of the République Française (RF), on the left are the symbols of the Paris Mint and the Mint Director. On the right are the initials of the designer and the Eurostar symbol, with the year of minting 2015 on the wing.

The twelve stars of the Euro are engraved in the outer circle of the commemorative coin.

The Reverse, as with other commemoratives, features the image of the Common Side.

From 2016, the commemorative €2 coin dedicated to football.
It features on the Obverse the Henri-Delaunay Cup, founder of the European Football Championship, within a stylization of France, with the initials of the republic RF on the right. Above in an arc is the inscription UEFA EURO 2016 FRANCE, and on either side of the cup at the bottom are the symbols of the Paris Mint and its Director, below a moving football. The concept of the tournament is highlighted by the sports symbols depicted in the background.

In the outer ring of the coin, the five-pointed stars are evenly distributed in a circle.

The Common Side is on the Reverse of the bimetallic coin.

The commemorative coin dedicated to President Francois Mitterrand is also from 2016. It was minted 100 years after his birth in Jarnac on October 26, 1916. He served as President of the Republic in France from 1981 to 1995.

On the Obverse, there is a detailed profile of the President looking to the right, deep in thought. Below the initials of the French Republic RF, next to his hand resting on his chin, are the symbols of the Mint and the Paris Mint Director. Partially covered by the portrait, on the right, is a stylization of an olive and oak tree together, while on the left are the dates 1916 and 2016, one above the other.
At the top, in an arc, is the inscription FRANÇOIS MITTERRAND.
On the outer part in nickel, twelve five-pointed stars are distributed, symbolizing the Eurozone countries.

The Reverse is, as always, represented by the Common Side.

Also in 2017, to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the sculptor Auguste Rodin, a commemorative coin was issued featuring his most significant work: “The Fisherman” on the left and his portrait on the right.
On the Obverse, at the top, the initials of the French Republic RF are displayed among the emblems of the Paris Mint and its Director.
Below Rodin's portrait is his signature and the dates 1917-2017, while between the fisherman and the artist's profile is the symbol of Eurostar.

The Reverse instead shows the Common Side of the two euro coins.

The 2017 €2 Commemorative coin was minted to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Pink Ribbon.
On the Obverse, the left side features a bust of a woman covering her left breast with a pink ribbon in the Proof version. On the right side is the mintmark, below which are the dates 1992 and 2017, followed by RF and the logo of the Mint Director. Arched above is the inscription 25°ANNIVERSAIRE DU RUBAN ROSE.

The 12 five-pointed stars are arranged in a circle and engraved on the outer rim of the coin.

On the Reverse, the Common Side of the €2 coins is engraved.

This is the Proof and colored version of the commemorative coin from 2017 created in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Pink Ribbon.

In the year 2018, the coin featuring the French flower of remembrance, the cornflower, is minted. A symbol of solidarity towards the wounded and veterans since the end of the First World War (1914/1918).
The 2 Euro France 2018 coin is also produced in a colored mirror-finish version for collectors.

On the Obverse of the 2 Euro France 2018, there is a modern stylization of the cornflower, or bleuet, surrounded by the inscription Le Bleuet de France, fleur de mémoire et de solidarité. Below are the dates 1918 – 2018 with the symbols of the Paris Mint and its Director above. The initials of the French Republic are represented with the R on the left and the F on the right.

Proof and colored version of the commemorative Cornflower from 2018.

We arrive at 2018 and find the commemorative coin for Simone Jacob Veil, a renowned French politician and Holocaust survivor, who has always been an example in the fight for women's rights. In 1975, thanks to her efforts, the abortion law was approved in France.
On the Obverse, her determined face is depicted, looking at us, with the number under which she was registered at the concentration camp of Auschwitz. At the top left, the inscription SIMONE VEIL appears, with the dates 1997 – 2017 below it, while at the center of the representation of the Parliament, the initials of the French Republic are shown, along with the year 2018 and the date 1975 below. Even lower, the Eurostar symbol and the emblems of the Paris Mint and its Director are featured.

In the background, the European Parliament extends into the outer part of the coin, where the stars of the European Union are also positioned.

The Reverse is the Common Side of the 2 Euro.

2019. Here is, to date, the most sought-after coin among the French commemoratives, dedicated to Asterix, the famous French comic. The only commemorative not common minted only in the FDC and FS versions. It can be said that these are therefore rare French €2 coins, with their good value.
On the Obverse, the profile of Asterix looking to the right, resembling a sort of cartoonization of ancient coins with a beaded edge and leaf ornaments on the lower side. Above in an arc is the inscription ASTERIX with the initials RF (République Française), below LX ANS, the year of minting 2019 and MMXIX. The symbols of the Director of the Mint and the French Mint are between Asterix's hair and back.

On the Obverse, the Common Side of the €2 coins is depicted.

The fall of the Berlin Wall is commemorated by the French two euro coin issued in 2019.
On the Obverse, a passage is depicted with doves, symbols of peace, flying above the jubilant hands of the crowd. To the right, the Brandenburg Gate is illustrated, and to the left, part of the wall with the inscriptions 30 ANS DE LA CHUTE DU MUR DE BERLIN – 30 JAHRE MAUERFALL.
Below, between the symbols of the Mint and the Mint Director, is the year of minting 2019. To the right is the abbreviation of the République Française and the Eurostar symbol inside one of the foreground arches.

Commemorative 2 euro coin dedicated to General Charles de Gaulle on the 80th anniversary of the Appeal of June 18, 1940. Issued on 01/02/2020.

On the obverse, the two sides of Charles de Gaulle are depicted, with the President of the French Republic in the foreground and the General of the Army in the background. Both profiles face right, and behind their heads is the abbreviation of the French Republic RF intertwined with the Cross of Lorraine, a symbol that Charles de Gaulle himself chose in 1940 to represent Free France.

Below the General's shoulder are the symbols of the French Mint and the Mint Director Yves Sampo: the cornucopia and the pentagon with AGMP.

On the cross, the dates 1890/1970 appear on the left and 2020 on the right.
At the bottom, in a semicircle on the right, is the name of the General Charles de Gaulle.

In 2020, a special commemorative coin was issued, dedicated to medical research. The coin was released on 10/6/2020.

On the obverse, there is a representation of research, featuring a female profile looking to the right, enclosed within a sphere. To the left is the inscription UNION, and to the right, a circle depicting a microscope with a DNA sequence inside. In the background are stylized stars.
At the top right is the abbreviation RF for République Française, and at the bottom, the year 2020 along with the symbols:

In 2021, France dedicates its commemorative coin to UNICEF and its 75 years of mission. Issued on 16/3/2021.

On the Obverse, an allegory of the working mission of UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) is depicted, showcasing the hands of adults and children as key figures in the mission. A hand is seen placing a piece of a puzzle that represents the Earth. At the bottom center, two intertwining laurel branches are present.

2 Commemorative Euro France 2021 Olympic Games Paris 2024 “The Race” are the first commemoratives dedicated to the Olympic Games of 2024 that will be held in France. A total of 4 coins will be issued dedicated to the XXXIII Olympics, in 2021/2022/2023/2024. Issue date 21/09/2021.

In the central part of the coin on the Obverse is engraved the symbol of France, Marianne, engaged in athletics, wearing a Phrygian cap (a symbol of Freedom during the Revolution). In the background, there is a stylized Olympic arena and the Eiffel Tower, to the left is the logo of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while at the bottom is engraved the monogram of the French Republic RF above the year of issue 2021. To the left of the minting year is engraved the Cornucopia as a symbol of the Paris Mint, and to the right is the square with the stylized rhinoceros head, symbol of Joaquin Jimenez JJ, the designer of the coin.

The €2 Commemorative Coin France 2022 Jacques Chirac is minted to commemorate both the 90th anniversary of Jacques Chirac's birth and the 20th anniversary of the Euro's introduction. Issued on 25/01/2022

On the Obverse, there is a profile of Jacques Chirac, the French politician and official, facing right with the symbol of the €. To the right is the monogram of the French Republic RF and the minting year 2022. At the bottom of the coin, the inscription JACQUES CHIRAC is engraved, followed by his birth and death dates 1932 and 2019.

Also engraved are the symbols of the Cornucopia, the symbol of the Paris Mint, and the square with the stylized rhinoceros head and JJ, the symbol of Joaquin Jimenez, the designer. Surrounding this, on the nickel part of the coin, are the five-pointed stars of Europe.

On the right side, on the Obverse of the commemorative coin, there is a portrait of Desiderius Erasmus writing his essay “In Praise of Folly“. The portrait is depicted above a bundle of links in the background of the coin, with the interweaving forming the number 35. The €2 Commemorative Coin France 2022 XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024 “Discus Throw” is the second coin dedicated by France to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Issued on 22/10/2022.

On the Obverse, the Winged Genius is depicted in the pose of a discus thrower, with the Arc de Triomphe behind him and a stylized athletic track in the background. At the bottom of the coin, the symbols of the Cornucopia (symbol of the Paris Mint) and the square with the stylized rhinoceros head and JJ (symbol of the artist Joaquin Jimenez) are engraved, surrounded by the 12 stars of the European Union arranged in a circle.

The €2 Commemorative coins France 2023 Rugby World Cup in France were issued to commemorate the X Rugby World Cup in France. Issued on 4/07/2023

The 2 Euro Commemorative France 2023 XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024 "boxing" is the third coin issued by France in honor of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Issued on 01/10/2023

On the Obverse, the coin features the sowing woman Semeuse with boxing gloves (an Olympic sport since 1904). Behind the Semeuse, the New Bridge of Paris is depicted, with a stylized athletics track in the background. On the right side of the coin, the symbol of the French Olympics for 2024 is engraved, while on the left is the monogram of the French Republic RF.

To the left of the sowing woman's feet, the symbol of the Paris Mint, the cornucopia, is engraved, and to the right is the signature of the designer Joaquin Jimenez, along with the stylized square with a rhino head and the initials JJ.

The 2 Euro Commemorative France 2024 Paris Olympics 2024 Hercules is the fourth commemorative coin dedicated to the Olympic Games taking place in Paris in 2024. Issue 2024
The Monnaie de Paris has unveiled the design of the first 2 euro commemorative coin for 2024. The theme of the coin is “Hercules and the Wrestling Match at Notre Dame“
The Obverse depicts Hercules wrestling against a winged hybrid prominently featured. At the bottom left are the logo of the Paris 2024 Olympics and the marks of the French mint (the cornucopia and the stylized square with a rhinoceros head) along with the signature JJ of chief engraver Joaquin Jimenez. In the background to the left, the athletic track and the monogram of the French Republic RF can be seen. In the background to the right, part of the facade of Notre Dame is visible. The year of issue 2024 is engraved vertically above the left foot of the winged hybrid.
