The coin we will see in this article is part of the collection of French Commemorative 2 Euro Coins and represents, for the French state, a piece of absolute historical importance. This is indeed the 2 Euro Commemorative coin of France issued on June 18, 2010, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the appeal made by General De Gaulle on June 18, 1940.

On that same date, from the BBC studios in London, after the resignation of Prime Minister Paul Reynaud in favor of Philippe Petain, the general made his appeal to the entire French nation. The appeal was clear; despite the beginning of negotiations for an armistice by Petain, the war was not over as it was a world conflict that went far beyond the Battle of France.

The general invited all French citizens residing in England to join him in continuing the fight, but did not achieve particular success.
