2 Euro Commemorative Monaco

The first coin in this collection best expresses that picturesque taste we mentioned earlier. This €2 Commemorative coin from the Principality of Monaco was minted in 2007 to honor the 25th anniversary of the death of Princess Grace Kelly. It is one of the rarest Monaco €2 coins in the collection, the most sought after and valued.

Grace Patricia Kelly was an American actress who decided to leave her film career to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The princess, who became a Monegasque citizen, was the mother of Princess Caroline, Prince Albert II, and Princess Stéphanie before tragically dying in a car accident in 1982.

Returning to the National Side of these rare Monaco €2 coins, on the Obverse, we can see the princess's face turned to the left. On the right, the inscription “MONACO” is engraved with the date “2017” placed between a cornucopia (the symbol of the Monaco mint) and a horn symbolizing the mint director Hubert Lorivière.

Near the princess's hair, the name of the author is present. All around, we can notice the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

Now we move on to the second coin minted for an event involving the royal family. In this case, it is a happy occasion as the €2 Commemorative coin from Monaco was minted in 2011 in honor of the wedding of Prince Albert to Charlène Wittstock.

National Side: On the Obverse, we can indeed observe the faces of the two spouses, with Albert behind and Charlène in front, both facing left. Below the two effigies is the inscription “MONACO” followed by the minting year 2011.

The inscription and the date are both enclosed between two symbols. On the left is the cornucopia, the symbol of the Paris mint, while on the right is the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, which is a pentagon with the inscription AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). All around the coin are the classic 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

As for the Reverse, it features the same design as the other €2 coins, the Common Side.

This €2 Commemorative coin from Monaco was minted in 2012 to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Sovereignty of Monaco.

On the Obverse, it features Luciano Grimaldi, also known as Luciano of Monaco, who became Lord of Monaco on October 11, 1505, after assassinating his predecessor and brother Giovanni II. Luciano maintained his sovereignty until his death on August 22, 1523.
The face of the sovereign on the coin is turned to the left and is accompanied by the arching inscription “1512 SOUVERAINETÉ DE MONACO 2012”. Below, next to the face, is the inscription “LUCIEN Ier” accompanied at the bottom by the cornucopia, which is the symbol of the Paris Mint.

On the right, there is the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, which is a pentagon with the letters AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars.

The Reverse is the Common Side, identical to other €2 coins. The coin is included in a Stamp&Coincard FDC and in a FS Box. The author is Robert Prat, and the engraver is Francesco Invernizzi.

Let's move on to the next €2 Commemorative coin from Monaco minted in 2013 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of UN Membership.

National Side: On the Obverse, this €2 coin from Monaco features a quite significant design. It depicts a dove with an olive branch in its beak and, in the background, the five continents. At the top, the large inscription “MONACO” is present, while at the bottom it reads “1993 – ADMISSION TO THE UN – 2013”.

The coin we will discuss in this section holds particular historical significance. We are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin from Monaco minted in 2015 for the 800th Anniversary of the Construction of the Fortress of the Rock.

On the Obverse, or National Side, we can observe a magnificent representation of a tower located right on the rock. At the top, the word “MONACO” is prominently displayed, enclosed between the cornucopia, which is the symbol of the Paris Mint, and the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, represented by a pentagon with the letters AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac).

Let's move on to another coin of incredible historical importance. In this case, we are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin minted in 2016 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of Monte Carlo by Charles III or Carlo III of Monaco.

Charles III was the reigning prince of Monaco from June 20, 1856, until his death on September 10, 1889. The prince is particularly remembered for the establishment of the Monte Carlo casino, created to replenish the state’s coffers after the previous government's extravagance.

On the National Side or Obverse, we can indeed observe the representation of Charles III with Monte Carlo in the background.

At the top, the word “MONACO” is prominently displayed, which is also enclosed between the cornucopia, the symbol of the Paris mint, and the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, a pentagon with the letters AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). At the bottom, we can see the circular inscription “1866 CHARLES III FONDE MONTE CARLO 2016”. As usual, the outer edge features the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

We have reached the €2 Commemorative coin minted in 2017 in honor of the 200th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Carabinieri of the Prince.

This was specifically founded by Prince Honoré IV in 1817 and, at least initially, was named the Company of Guards.

On the Obverse, the National Side of the coin features a carabiniere on the right performing the classic military salute, while another stands at attention on the left. In the background, the Palace of the Princes of Monaco is depicted.

At the top, the word “MONACO” is enclosed between the cornucopia (symbol of the Paris mint) and the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, which is a pentagon with the letters AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). At the bottom, in a circle, the dates “1817 – 2017” are inscribed with the words “CARABINIERS DU PRINCE” below. Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars representing European states.

We have reached the penultimate coin in this collection. Specifically, we are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin from Monaco minted in 2018 for the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of François-Joseph Bosio.

Bosio was an incredible Monegasque sculptor who gained some fame in the early 19th century thanks to several wonderful works created for Napoleon and others.

The National Side: Regarding the coin on the Obverse, we find the representation of the face of François-Joseph Bosio with the sculpture of the Nymph Salmacis to the right.

At the bottom, just below the two representations, we can find the inscriptions “FRANCOIS JOSEPH BOSIO” and “1768 • SCULPTEUR • 2018”.

Both of these inscriptions are enclosed by the symbol of the Paris mint, namely the cornucopia, and the symbol of the mint director Yves Sampo, which is a pentagon with the letters AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). This €2 coin was minted in 2019 in honor of the 200th Anniversary of the Ascension to the Throne of Prince Honoré V.
Honoré V was born in Paris on May 14, 1778, and died in the same city on October 2, 1841. He was the sovereign of Monaco from 1819 until his death.

On the Obverse of the coin, we can observe the effigy of Prince Honoré V with the inscription “HONORE V” to the left and “MONACO” to the right. To the left, there is also a cornucopia, which represents the symbol of the Paris mint. At the bottom, the semicircular inscription “1819 – Avènement – 2019” is engraved. As always, the outer edge features the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States.

On the Reverse, the coin presents the Common Side of the €2.

Here we are at the coin dedicated to the 300th Anniversary of the birth of Honoré III. Coin issued on 20/10/2020.

On the Obverse, the bust of Prince Honoré III in royal attire and typical 18th-century style, to the left the symbol of the Paris Mint, the cornucopia, and his name HONORÉ III. To the right, the inscription MONACO followed by the symbol of the Mint Director Yves Sampo, which is a pentagon inscribed with the acronym of Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac. At the bottom, the date 1720 – Naissance – 2020. In the outer ring of the coin, where the hand of the Prince also overflows, the 12 stars of the European Union are engraved.

On the Reverse, the value side of the coin, which is the same for all 2 euro commemorative coins.

The 2 Euro 2021 Monaco Anniversary of Marriage Albert II and Charlène was issued for the 10th Anniversary of marriage of Prince Albert II of Monaco to Charlène Wittstock. Issued on 6/10/2021.

On the Obverse, there are left-facing profiles of Prince Albert II and Charlène Wittstock in the foreground. At the top, the word MONACO appears, and at the bottom of the coin, the date 2021 is engraved, followed by the Cornucopia (Paris Mint), the inscription MARIAGE PRINCIER, then the square with JJ and the rhinoceros head (Symbol of the author Joaquin Jimenez), and finally the date 2021. Surrounding it are the stars of the Euro Zone.

The 2 euro commemorative Monaco 2022 Albert I coins were minted for the 100th Anniversary of the death of Prince Albert I of Monaco. Issued on 7/09/2022

On the Obverse, the bust of Prince Albert I of Monaco is depicted, featuring a beard, mustache, and uniform. Below is the inscription ALBERT Ier 1848 – 1922, with the cornucopia of the Paris Mint on the left and the designer's symbol Joaquin Jimenez, a square inscribed with JJ, on the right. At the top left, the word MONACO is engraved, while the date 2022 is on the right. Surrounding this are the 12 stars of the European Union.

The 2 Euro Commemorative Monaco 2023 Prince Rainier III coin was minted in memory of the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Issued on 1/06/2023

On the Obverse, the smiling portrait of Prince Rainier III is engraved, beneath the inscription RANIER III – 31 MAY 1923. At the top of the coin, the inscription MONACO 2023 is engraved, preceded by the cornucopia, the symbol of the Paris Mint, and followed by the symbol of the designer Joaquin Jimenez, the square inscribed with JJ.

Surrounding the coin are the twelve five-pointed stars of the European Union.

On the Reverse, the face value of the coin, 2 EURO, is displayed.

The 2 Euro Monaco 2024 Treaties of Charles V is issued on the occasion of the first trial emission of the commemorative coin. The trial was conducted by Prince Albert II himself. Release in 2024.

On the Obverse, the profile of Emperor Charles V facing right, with the inscription MONACO at the top of the coin and 1524 – TRAITE AVEC CHARLES QUINT – 2024 at the bottom. Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars of Europe.

On the Reverse, the Common Side of the 2 EURO coin is engraved, and the Chief Engraver is Joaquim Jiminez.
