2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania

The first €2 Commemorative coin from Lithuania was minted in 2015 to commemorate the Lithuanian Language. This is undoubtedly a very special coin, particularly due to its subject.

Starting with the National Side, on the Obverse we can observe the inscription “AČIŪ” which means “THANK YOU” prominently in the center of the coin. In the background, all the letters of the Lithuanian language are engraved, although they do not form any specific word. The font used for the inscription and the various letters is an original Lithuanian font.

At the bottom, the word “LIETUVA” is engraved, followed by the minting year “2015”. On the right, the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) is present.
On the outer edge of the coin, the 12 five-pointed stars are engraved, symbolically representing the European States.

On the Reverse, the €2 Lithuania 2015 coin features the Common Side as with all €2 coins.

The next €2 Commemorative coin was minted in 2015 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the European Flag.

On the Obverse, we can immediately observe a wonderful representation of the European Flag perfectly centered on the coin. Surrounding the flag are twelve stylized human figures representing the member states united together to establish a new prosperous Europe.

At the top right, the inscription “LIETUVA” and the dates “1985 – 2015” are engraved. At the bottom right, the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) is stamped. Along the outer edge, the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European countries are distributed. Meanwhile, on the Reverse, the coin features the so-called Common Side, which is the same for all €2 commemorative coins.

The next €2 Commemorative coin from Lithuania was minted in 2016 in honor of Baltic culture. It is one of the most distinctive and unique coins in the entire collection due to the originality of its National Side.

On the Obverse, we can observe a disc made of Baltic amber, one of the most significant symbols of Baltic culture. Amber is indeed a symbol of protection and fertility. The disc is also decorated with a diagonal cross of perforated dots, symbolizing the terrestrial axis.

At the top, prominently, is the inscription “LIETUVA”. To the right of the inscription is the Mint's symbol “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla), while to the left is the year of issue “2016”. Surrounding the coin are the usual 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

The fourth coin in this collection is the €2 Commemorative coin minted in 2017 to celebrate Vilnius Capital of Culture.

On the Obverse, the National Side features the city of Vilnius, highlighting its most characteristic and identifying landmarks. At the top left, the inscription “VILNIUS” is present, while on the top right, the inscription “LIETUVA” is followed by the minting year “2017”.

Centered slightly to the right is the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla), while to the left is a “V” inside a circle. As usual, the outer edge features the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

On the Reverse, the Common Side is engraved, which is standard for all commemorative coins.

Here we have a €2 Commemorative coin from Lithuania of significant historical importance. Specifically, this coin was minted in 2018 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Baltic States. Naturally, it is a common coin, also featuring subjects from Estonia and Latvia, the other two Baltic States.

On the Obverse, we can observe a wonderful stylized representation of the three states as three Baltic sisters with intertwined hair, an allegory indicating their deep unity. On what we might identify as the heads of the three sisters, the three coats of arms of the Baltic States are engraved (namely Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia).

To the left of the design, the inscription “LIETUVA” is engraved alongside the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla). To the right, we find the minting year “2018” with the initials of the designer “JP”. Surrounding the coin are the usual 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states. On the Reverse, it features the same face as any other €2 coin, the Common Side.

The next €2 Commemorative coin from Lithuania was minted in 2018 to celebrate the Lithuanian Dance and Song Festival, a highly significant event in the country, so much so that it appears on the National Side of this coin.

On the Obverse of this €2 Lithuania coin, we can see engraved stylized figures of birds and people represented in a Lithuanian folk art style. It is particularly important to highlight that the people, depicted as paper cutouts, represent the traditional dances and songs.

At the bottom, the inscription “LIETUVA” is engraved, to the left is the year of issue “2018” and to the right is the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla). On the outer edge, the 12 five-pointed stars representing European states are engraved.

The Common Side for all €2 coins is on the Reverse of the coin.

This €2 Commemorative coin from Lithuania was minted specifically in 2019 to honor the Sutartines, which are traditional Lithuanian folk songs. Like the previous one, it celebrates Baltic popular culture.

On the Obverse, perfectly centered, are the faces of three women from whose hair emanate concentric lines. This symbolizes the unity of hair, representing the melodies of Lithuanian folk songs. The lines widen at certain points and then narrow again, alternating with various geometric patterns and figures. At the top, the inscription “LIETUVA” appears, to the left “SUTARTINES”, and to the right the symbol of the Vilnius Mint “LMK” (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) along with the year of issue “2019”.

On the outer edge, as usual, are engraved the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

On the Reverse, the Common Side is identical to that of any other €2 coin.

Once again, Lithuania is able to amaze with its coins. Specifically, this €2 Commemorative coin was minted in 2019 and is the first of a five-coin series on the ethnographic regions that make up Lithuania (“Lietuvos etnografiniai regionai”).

This first coin is dedicated to the region of Žemaitija.

On the Obverse, we can observe the Coat of Arms of the Region. It features a bear standing on its hind legs with a chain collar around its neck. This is placed within a shield and topped with a crown.

The shield is held on the left by an armored soldier, symbolizing courage and strength, and on the right by a goddess, symbolizing hope.

Below is an inscription on a banner that reads “PATRIA UNA” meaning “one homeland.” At the top, we can see prominently the word “LIETUVA” while at the bottom is “ŽEMAITIJA” followed by the year of issue “2019.”

We have arrived at the €2 Commemorative coin Lithuania 2020. Another coin from the five-part series dedicated to the regions of Lithuania, the second one. Issued on 16/09/2020.

Specifically, this coin was minted in 2020 to represent the region of Aukštaitija.

On the Obverse, we can see engraved the coat of arms of the region, which features a knight with a drawn sword placed at the center of a shield. The shield is supported by two angelic figures positioned on the right and left. Also on the obverse of the €2 Lithuania 2010, at the bottom, just below the shield, we can observe a long banner with the inscription PATRIA TUAM MUNDUM EXISTIMA, which translates to “consider your homeland as the entire world”.

At the top, the word LIETUVA is engraved, followed immediately below by the minting year 2020. Then, at the bottom, we find the inscription Aukštaitija and the symbol of the Lithuanian Mint LMK (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla).

On the outermost edge, as usual, there are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

The Reverse of the coin, however, is no different from any other Common Side of the €2 coins.

These 2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania 2020 coins are dedicated to the Hill of Crosses, a pilgrimage site near the city of Šiauliai. Issued on 11/04/2020. UNC.
This coin honors the Hill of Crosses, a truly evocative place and pilgrimage destination in Lithuania that features thousands and thousands of crosses of various sizes, shapes, and materials. A poignant symbol of the faith, suffering, and hope of the Lithuanian people.

The Obverse shows a glimpse of the Hill of Crosses with the staircase and some of the over 400,000 crosses at the top, along with the year of issue 2020 LIETUVA. At the bottom, the inscription Hill of Crosses in Lithuanian: KRYŽIŲ KALNAS, followed by the Mint mark LMK (which stands for Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla).

Here are the €2 Commemorative Lithuania 2021 dedicated to the UNESCO Biosphere.
Issue date 19/05/2021

On the Obverse, a view of the wetland reserve of the Žuvintas Biosphere is depicted, one of the UNESCO reserves that is part of the Man and the Biosphere project. The animals represented are characteristic of the lake's fauna, including the red-bellied toad, a bittern, a heron, a mute swan, and a flock of cranes.

At the top of the coin, the inscription LIETUVA is engraved, and at the bottom, the year of issue 2021, the mint mark Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla LMK, and ŽUVINTAS UNESCO. In the outer ring made of nickel, there are twelve stars of the European Union.

The Reverse is the side of the coin with the Value Side of 2 euros.

This is the third coin that is part of the five-coin series dedicated to the Regions of Lithuania. Issued on 09/09/2021.
Dzukija is located in the southern part of Lithuania, and in Lithuanian, the meaning of Dzukija is land of songs (Dainava).

The 2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania 2021 Dzūkija features on the Obverse the coat of arms of the ethnographic region of Dzukija, which is a banner supported on the right and left by two heraldic lions with an engraved Warrior holding a shield. Below, the ribbon bears the motto EX GENTE BELLICISISSIMA POPULIS LABORIOSUS. At the top of the coin, the inscription LIETUVA 2021 is engraved, while at the bottom, there is the mint mark LMK (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) and DZÚKIJA.

The Common Side with the denomination is on the Reverse of the coin.

The 2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania 2022 Suvalkija is part of the five-coin series dedicated to the Regions of Lithuania. Issued on 20/12/2022.

At the center of the coin on the Obverse is the coat of arms of Suvalkija featuring a Bull, flanked by oak branches and acorns in silver; the two branches support a ribbon at the bottom with the inscription VIENYBĖ TEŽYDI.

At the top, the inscription LIETUVA and the date 2022 are engraved, while at the bottom of the commemorative coin is the mint mark LMK (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) and the inscription SUVALKIJA. Surrounding the coin are the twelve stars of the European symbol.

On the Reverse, the value of the coin is indicated as 2 EURO.

The Edge is reeded and features the inscription LAISVĖ, VIENYBĖ, GEROVĖ (FREEDOM, UNITY, PROSPERITY)

In 2022, the 2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania 2022 Erasmus Program is issued, as with all Eurozone countries, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Program. This program was initiated in 1987 by Sofia Corradi, an educator, and Domenico Lenarduzzi. Together, they managed to create the conditions for launching an exchange project for students across Europe. The name chosen derives from Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam, who was a Humanist, Philosopher, and Theologian, as well as the author of The Praise of Folly. Issued on 1/07/2022.

On the Obverse, to the right of the coin, is the profile of the philosopher Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam bent over writing his essay “The Praise of Folly.” In the background, there is a texture created by the intertwining lines that form an irregular 35. The lines represent the intercultural exchanges of students.

At the bottom right, the inscription 1987-2022 ERASMUS PROGRAM LIETUVA is engraved in 4 lines, to the left is the mint mark LMK (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla), and above the philosopher's hand is the signature of the engraver Joaquin Jimenez JJ. Surrounding the coin are the twelve stars of the European logo in a circle.

The 2 Euro Commemorative Lithuania 2023 Together with Ukraine is minted in honor of Ukraine's fight to reclaim its freedom. The coin was issued on 16/03/2023.

On the Obverse of the coin, there is a detail of a sunflower whose petals are stylized human figures protecting each other by holding hands, with the date 2023 on the left. Additionally, the sunflower represents the rising sun with the inscription KARTU SU UKRAINA, symbolizing hope. At the top left, the inscription LIETUVA appears, and on the right is the mint mark LMK (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla). The designer is Eglė Žemaitė.

The Reverse features the Value Side of the coin with the value of 2 Euro engraved on it. Its Edge is reeded and bears the inscription LAISVĖ, VIENYBĖ, GEROVĖ (FREEDOM, UNITY, PROSPERITY).

The Lithuania 2024 €2 commemorative honours the tradition of straw gardens (Baltic cultural practice on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list). Issued on 25 September 2024.

The Lithuania 2025 €2 commemorative is dedicated to national defence and whole-of-society resilience. Issued on 27 March 2025.

The obverse shows Lithuania’s outline framed by a stylised barrier (hedgehog metaphor of readiness); centre inscriptions LIETUVA, 2025 and LMK; 12 EU stars on the outer ring. Designers: Karolis Tumelis and Tomas Dragūnas.

The Lithuania 2025 €2 commemorative completes the ethnographic regions series with Mažoji Lietuva (Lithuania Minor). Issued on 22 December 2025.

The obverse shows the regional arms (moose with spear and lighthouse), Kurenkähne on both sides and a Vydūnas quotation; inscriptions LIETUVA, MAŽOJI LIETUVA, 2025 and LMK; 12 EU stars on the outer ring. Designer: Rolandas Rimkūnas.
