2 Euro Commemorative Ireland

The first €2 Commemorative coin from Ireland that we encounter is actually a coin common to all European states. We are talking about the coin minted in 2007 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome.

On the Obverse of the €2 Ireland 2007, we can indeed observe the open Treaties, placed at the center of the coin, with a representation of the floor of Piazza del Campidoglio (the location where the treaties were signed on March 25, 1957) designed by Michelangelo.

At the top, between the pavement and the Treaties, the inscription “AN EORAIP” is engraved, while if you look even higher, you can see, arranged in two lines, the inscription “CONRADH NA RÓIMHE 50 BLIAIN”.

At the bottom of the coin, the inscription “éire” is present, followed by the minting year “2007”.

All around, you can observe the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

As for the Reverse, it is important to emphasize that this is the first coin minted by the Dublin mint to feature the second type of Common Side.

Let's move on to the second coin in this collection. We are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin from Ireland minted in 2009 for the 10th Anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union.

On the Obverse, we can immediately observe a rather characteristic and unique design. It features a stylized man depicted next to the Euro symbol. This indicates that the Euro represents the final stage of an economic and financial evolution for European citizens.

It is noteworthy that the design was chosen directly by European citizens through an online competition.

At the top, the inscription “éıʀe” is engraved, while at the bottom, it reads “AEA 1999-2009 EMU” (Aontas Eacnamaíochta Airgeadaíochta). Above the year “2009”, the initials of the designer ‘ΓΣ' are also present.

Surrounding the design are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

As for the Reverse, it features the Common Side which is the same for all €2 coins.

The third coin in this collection is another common coin shared with other European states. We are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin minted in 2012 to celebrate the 10 years of euro banknotes and coins.

On the Obverse, the symbol of the Euro is perfectly positioned at the center of the globe, emphasizing the centrality and importance of the Euro in Europe. To further reinforce this concept, several other elements have been included all around.

Specifically, we can observe people representing European citizens, a ship symbolizing trade, a factory representing industry, and finally wind turbines indicating energy.

Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

On the Reverse, the coin is identical to all other €2 coins with its Common Side.

Once again, we are discussing a coin that is common to other European states. In particular, we are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin from Ireland minted in 2015 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the European Flag.

On the Obverse, in the National Side, we can see, placed in the center, the European Flag surrounded by 12 stylized human figures. This design signifies the unity of the peoples and citizens of Europe, aiming to create a new and better Europe, reaffirming its centrality and importance through the flag.

In the upper right, the issuing country is indicated as “éire,” along with the years “1985 – 2015.”
In the lower right, the initials of the designer are also present.

We arrive at a coin of incredible historical importance for this State. Specifically, we are talking about the €2 Commemorative coin minted in 2016 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland. Issued on 20/01/2016

The term “Easter Rising” refers to a rebellion carried out by Irish Republicans against British rule that took place during the Easter week of 1916. The uprising lasted from April 24 to April 29, 1916.

Returning to the €2 coin Ireland 2016, on the Obverse, or National Side, we can observe a magnificent representation of the statue of Hibernia, created by the sculptor John Smyth, which holds incredible historical significance. This statue is indeed located on the Irish Parliament, whose occupation marked the beginning of the uprising. Its name derives from the term used by the ancient Greeks to refer specifically to Ireland.

At the top, the inscription “HIBERNIA” is engraved, with the dates “1916” and “2016” respectively on the left and right sides of the statue.

In the background, rays of sunlight can be seen, metaphorically indicating the dawn of a new Nation and a new Republic.

Once again, an extremely important coin for the history of Ireland. In particular, this €2 Commemorative coin was minted in 2019 for the 100th Anniversary of the first Dáil Éireann assembly.

This, which translates to “Assembly of Ireland,” is nothing more than the lower house of the Oireachtas (i.e., the Parliament) of the Republic of Ireland.

Regarding the coin's Obverse, or the National Side, we can observe the inscription “‘An Chéad Dáil,” which means “the first day,” perfectly centered and prominently displayed on the coin.
At the top, the date “1919” is engraved, while at the bottom, the inscription “ÈIRE 2019” is present.
On the outer edge, as always, the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states can be seen.

The €2 Ireland 2019 coin is included in the FDC Coincard and the FS Coincard.

The €2 commemorative coin celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus programme, issued by Ireland in 2022, is part of the celebrations across all Eurozone countries for this milestone.

It features on the Obverse a portrait of Desiderius Erasmus, the Dutch philosopher and humanist, inspired by a portrait by Hans Holbein. The portrait is depicted on a network of links that crosses the central background of the coin, forming the number 35. This network symbolizes the intellectual and human exchanges among European students participating in the Erasmus programme.

On the upper part of Erasmus's right hand, the initials of the coin's designer, Joaquin Jimenez, “JJ” are inscribed. The outer edge of the coin features 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The Reverse is the Common Side of the coin with the denomination inscribed as 2 EURO.

On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Ireland's accession to the European Union, the 2 Euro Commemorative Ireland 2023 European Union coin has been minted. Issued on 22/06/2023

On the Obverse, the 50th logo is depicted, featuring the inscription ÉIRE eu50, with the zero completed by 5 stars. At the top of the coin is the date 1973, while at the bottom is 2023, surrounded by the 12 five-pointed stars of EUROPE on the outer circle of the coin.

On the Reverse, the value side of the coin shows a map without borders and the value of 2EURO.

The Ireland 2026 €2 commemorative marks the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Issued on 7 July 2026; also included in the FS year set.

The obverse shows the official Irish Presidency 2026 logo: a spiral of dots symbolising growth, dynamism and movement. Each of the five spiral arms has 27 dots (the 27 Member States); the free space in the centre forms a five-pointed star, echoing the EU flag. Left EU 2026, right AE 2026 (Aontas Eorpach), top and bottom ÉIRE; 12 EU stars on the outer ring.
