The 2 Euro Erasmus commemorative coin was minted in 2022 and is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Program (European Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students). It was minted on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the program's foundation. The issue date is 1/7/2022

The Erasmus Program was established in 1987 through the insight of educator Sofia Corradi and the collaboration of Domenico Lenarduzzi, who together managed to create the conditions for this student exchange project to take off across Europe. The name comes from Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam, a Humanist, Philosopher, and Theologian, as well as the author of the In Praise of Folly.
