For this historical figure, we must take an even greater step back. We are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2016 coin that commemorates the 2200th anniversary of the death of Titus Maccius Plautus, a playwright of the Roman era.

On the Obverse, the coin features the representation of two theatrical masks from the Commedia Nuova, a source of inspiration for Plautus. These are taken from a mosaic dating back to the 1st century BC, preserved in the Capitoline Museums in Rome.

At the top center is the monogram of the Italian Republic, to the right are the initials of the designer “LDS” and to the left is the mint mark. At the bottom is the inscription “PLAUTO” followed by the dates “184 BC” and “2016”.
