Netherlands €2 Erasmus Program 2022 — Value and Rarity

The 2 Euro Commemorative Netherlands 2022 Erasmus Program was minted in 2022 and is dedicated to the 35th year of the Erasmus Program (European Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students). Issued on 1/7/2022

The Erasmus Program referred to was born in 1987 from the intuition of Sofia Corradi, an educator and collaborator of Domenico Lenarduzzi. Together they managed to create the conditions to launch the intercultural exchange project among students across Europe. The name chosen for the project refers to Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam, a Humanist, Philosopher, and Theologian, and also the author of The Praise of Folly.

On the Obverse, facing left, is the profile of Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam engaged in writing his most famous essay (The Praise of Folly) with the signature of the engraver Joaquin Jimenez JJ above. In the background, there are a series of bands intertwining to form the number 35, and at the center of the coin is the monogram NL of the Dutch Republic. At the bottom right, the inscription 1987-2022 EURASMUS PROGRAMME is engraved, and at the bottom center is the winged caduceus, the symbol of the Dutch Mint, and the raven, the symbol of the Mint Director Bert van Ravenswaaij.

On the outer part, the 12 stars symbolizing the European Union are distributed.

On the Reverse, the value side of the coin shows the value of 2 euros and the new map of Europe.
