2 Euro 2011 Commemorative Coins

In 2011, the commemorative bimetallic coin is minted for the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day. Issued on 3/05/2011.

On the Obverse, there are two portraits; on the right is Marie Popelin, the first female lawyer in Belgium, and on the left Isala Van Diest, the first female doctor in Belgium. The two portraits are placed above the female symbol, and above the figures are the two symbols of their professions, namely the caduceus on the left and the scales on the right.
At the top of the commemorative coin, starting from the left, is the feather, symbol of Serge Lesens, Director of the Mint, followed by the abbreviation of the Belgian state BE and finally the mint mark itself, which is the Archangel Gabriel with a cross above.

On the lower part of the coin, the name I.VAN DIEST is followed by the year 2011 and the name M.POPELIN.

In the outer ring around the central part of the coin, the 12 stars symbolizing the EU are distributed.

For the 200th Anniversary of the Bank of Finland, in 2011, a commemorative coin was issued depicting the national symbol of the Whooper Swan, also known as the Singing Swan. The Laulujoutsen is a large white swan with a yellow beak with a black tip and dark webbed feet. Issued on 17/10/2011.

Specifically, on the Obverse, the migratory flight of a Wild Swan is evident, which as mentioned is the national bird of Finland, as well as a protected species and Finnish symbol of fidelity. To the right is the date 1811, the year the Suomen Pankki (Bank of Finland) was founded in Turku by Tsar Alexander I of Russia.
At the bottom center is the mint mark with the heraldic lion inside a circle and to the left the issuing state's abbreviation for Finland FI. To the left, at 9 o'clock, the year 2011. On the body of the swan in the upper right is engraved the V signature of the engraver Hannu Veijalainen.
Surrounding the coin are the classic 12 five-pointed stars arranged in a circle, representing the European States.

As for the Common Side, this is on the Reverse of the bimetallic coin with the nominal value.

French Commemorative Coin of 2011 minted in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Music Festival.

On the Obverse, in the center of the coin, a crowd of people celebrating among the notes is depicted, showing musical instruments under the inscription Fête de la MUSIQUE 21 Juin 2011. The Festival has been celebrated on the day of the summer solstice in France since 1981. At the top right in a semicircle is the inscription 30° ANNIVERSAIRE. Below is the state abbreviation of the French Republic (RF).
In the outer crown made of copper and nickel, there are twelve five-pointed stars as a symbol of the EU.

We arrive at what is perhaps historically one of the most important coins in this collection, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2011. Specifically, this 2 Euro coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification.

On the Obverse, the coin features the official logo of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, consisting of three tricolor flags which represent the three jubilees of 1911, 1961, and 2011. At the top, there is an arching inscription “150° DELL’UNITA’ D’ITALIA”.

To the right is the monogram of the Italian Republic, while below, immediately under the design, is the inscription “1861 > 2011 >>” beneath which we find the mintmark and the signature of the designer.

Next, we have the second coin minted for an event involving the royal family. In this case, it is a happy event as the 2 Euro Commemorative coin from Monaco was minted in 2011 in honor of the wedding of Prince Albert to Charlène Wittstock.

National Side: On the Obverse, we can indeed see the faces of the two spouses, with Albert behind and Charléne in front, both facing left. Below the two effigies is the inscription “MONACO” followed by the year of minting 2011.

The inscription and the date are both enclosed between two symbols. We now arrive at the first coin minted in honor of a historical figure. Specifically, this is the 2 Euro Commemorative coin from the Netherlands minted in 2011 in honor of Erasmus of Rotterdam, theologian, philosopher, humanist, and Dutch essayist.

The coin commemorates, in addition to the author, his most famous work, The Praise of Folly, on the 500th anniversary of its publication.

On the Obverse of the 2 Euro Netherlands 2011, we can indeed see Erasmus, facing left, in the act of writing his book. To the left of the author is the effigy of Queen Beatrix.

On the Obverse, we can observe a detail from one of his paintings Judith Beheading Holofernes, while at the bottom are the dates 1511 – 2011. Judith and Holofernes is a painting by Giorgio Vasari from 1554 that depicts the biblical episode in which Judith beheads Holofernes.
