2 Euro 2011 Commemorative Coins

In 2011, the commemorative bimetallic coin is minted for the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day. Issued on 3/05/2011.

On the Obverse, there are two portraits; on the right is Marie Popelin, the first female lawyer in Belgium, and on the left Isala Van Diest, the first female doctor in Belgium. The two portraits are placed above the female symbol, and above the figures are the two symbols of their professions, namely the caduceus on the left and the scales on the right.
At the top of the commemorative coin, starting from the left, is the feather, symbol of Serge Lesens, Director of the Mint, followed by the abbreviation of the Belgian state BE and finally the mint mark itself, which is the Archangel Gabriel with a cross above.

On the lower part of the coin, the name I.VAN DIEST is followed by the year 2011 and the name M.POPELIN.

In the outer ring around the central part of the coin, the 12 stars symbolizing the EU are distributed.

On the Reverse, we find the Common Side with its face value of 2 euros.

Per i 200 Anni della Banca Finlandese, nel 2011 dunque, è stata emessa una commemorativa che raffigura il simbolo nazionale del Cigno Selvatico detto anche Cigno Canoro. Il Laulujoutsen è un grande cigno bianco dal becco giallo con la punta nera e le zampe scure e palmate. Emessa il 17/10/2011.

Nello specifico al Dritto è evidente il volo migratorio di un Cigno Selavatico, che come abbiamo detto è l'uccello nazionale della la Finlandia, nonchè specie protetta e simbolo finnico di fedeltà. A destra la data del 1811, anno in cui venne fondata a Turku la Suomen Pankki (Banca Finlandese) dallo Zar Alessandro I di Russia.
In basso al centro il simbolo di Zecca con il leone araldico dentro il cerchio e a sinistra la sigla dello stato di emissione della Finlandia FI. A sinistra, a ore 9, il millesimo 2011. Sul corpo del cigno in alto a destra è incisa la V firma dell'incisore Hannu Veijalainen.
Nel giro intorno alla moneta ci sono le classiche 12 stelle a 5 punte disposte in cerchio, queste rappresentano gli Stati Europei.

Per quanto riguarda invece la Faccia Comune questa è al Verso della bimetallica con il valore nominale.

Nel bordo della commemorativa è incisa la scritta: SUOMI FINLAND a cui fanno seguito le tre teste di Leone.

Moneta Commemorativa Francese del 2011 coniata in onore del 30° Anniversario della Festa della Musica.

Al Dritto nella parte centrale della moneta è infatti rappresentata la folla di gente in festa tra le note che mostra gli strumenti musicali sottola scritta Fête de la MUSIQUE 21 Juin 2011. La Festa è infatti celebrata il giorno del solstizio d'estate in Francia dal 1981. In alto a destra a semicerchio la scritta 30° ANNIVERSAIRE. In basso la sigla di stato della Repubblica Francese (RF).
Nella corona esterna in rame e nichel ci sono le dodici stelle a cinque punte come simbolo dell'UE.

Al Verso viene utilizzata la Faccia Comune a tutti i paesi dell'Unione Europea.

The choice for the commemorative coin of 28/01/2011 is for the city of Cologne and its majestic and imposing Cathedral.
In the center of the coin, on the Obverse, the impressive Gothic Cathedral of Cologne with the inscription NORDRHEIN WESTFALEN printed in two lines below.
At the top right, the mint mark which can be A/D/F/G/J depending on the issuing mint, and the initials of Heinz Hoyer the engraver.
In the outer circle made of nickel, the 12 five-pointed stars with below, separated by the central star, the year 2011 and at the top right the D for Germany (Deutschland).

We arrive at what is perhaps historically one of the most important coins in this collection, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2011. Specifically, this 2 Euro coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification.

On the Obverse, the coin features the official logo of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, consisting of three tricolor flags which represent the three jubilees of 1911, 1961, and 2011. At the top, there is an arching inscription “150° DELL’UNITA’ D’ITALIA”.

To the right is the monogram of the Italian Republic, while below, immediately under the design, is the inscription “1861 > 2011 >>” beneath which we find the mintmark and the signature of the designer.

Passiamo subito ad un’altra moneta commemorativa molto interessante. Nello specifico parliamo dei 2 Euro Commemorativi Malta 2011 coniati per ricordare la prima elezione dei rappresentanti maltesi all’Assemblea Nazionale nel 1849, durante la dominazione britannica.

Al Dritto la moneta raffigura una mano nell’atto di posare una scheda elettorale nell’urna. In alto si colloca ad arco la scritta “ MALTA – First elected representatives 1849”. In basso è inserito invece il millesimo di conio e tutt’intorno le 12 stelle a cinque punte che rappresentano gli stati dell’Unione Europea.

Al Verso la moneta è identica a tutte le altre da 2 Euro con la rappresentazione dell’Europa.

Passiamo alla seconda moneta coniata sempre per un evento che coinvolge la famiglia reale. In questo caso si tratta per fortuna di un lieto evento in quanto la moneta da 2 Euro Commemorativa di Monaco in questione è stata coniata nel 2011 in onore del matrimonio del principe Alberto con Charlène Wittstock.

Faccia Nazionale: Al Dritto possiamo difatti osservare i volti dei due sposi, con Alberto dietro e Charléne davanti, entrambi rivolti verso sinistra. Sotto le due effigi è presente la scritta “MONACO” seguita dal millesimo di conio 2011.

La scritta è la data sono entrambe racchiuse tra due simboli. A sinistra la cornucopia simbolo della zecca di Parigi mentre a destra il simbolo del direttore di zecca Yves Sampo, ovvero un pentagono con la scritta AGMP (Atelier de Gravure de la Monnaie de Paris et Pessac). Tutto intorno la moneta presenta le classiche 12 stelle a cinque punte che rappresentano gli Stati europei.

Per quanto riguarda il Verso si parla della medesima faccia delle altre monete da 2 Euro, la Faccia Comune.

Arriviamo dunque alla prima moneta coniata in onore di un personaggio storico. Nel dettaglio si tratta della moneta da 2 Euro Commemorativa d’Olanda coniata nel 2011 in onore di Erasmo da Rotterdam teologo, filosofo, umanista e saggista olandese.

La moneta naturalmente commemora, oltre all’autore, anche la sua opera più famosa ovvero L’elogio della follia nel 500° anniversario dalla sua pubblicazione.

Al Dritto dei 2 euro paesi bassi 2011 possiamo infatti osservare proprio Erasmo, rivolto verso sinistra, nell'atto di scrivere il suo libro. A sinistra dell’autore è presente poi l’effige della Regina Beatrice.

Tra i volti delle due persone sono incise le parole “Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden” ovvero “Beatrice Regina dei Paesi Bassi”. Direttamente sopra la mano di Erasmo, quella intenta a scrivere, possiamo osservare il simbolo della zecca di Utrecht e quello del direttore di zecca uno di fianco all'altro con subito sotto il millesimo di conio “2011”.

Tutto intorno, distribuite sulla corona esterna, sono presenti le classiche 12 stelle a cinque punte, le quali rappresentano gli Stati Europei.

In 2011, this Commemorative coin was issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of the explorer and writer Fernão Mendes Pinto. Issued on 10/08/2011.

The Obverse features a ship sailing on the waves of the sea, created by a series of wavy inscriptions referring to his writings, his destinations, the city of Lisbon, and Portugal itself. At the top, the inscription in a semicircle reads FERNAO MENDES PINTO, followed by the year 2011 and preceded by the date 1511.
The European symbol is represented by the 12 stars arranged in a circle above the outer ring of the coin.

On the Reverse, we find the Common Side with its nominal value.

Passiamo subito alla prossima moneta. In particolare questa moneta da 2 Euro commemorativa di San Marino è stata coniata nel 2011 in onore del 500° anniversario della nascita di Giorgio Vasari noto pittore, architetto e storico dell’arte italiano.

Al Dritto possiamo osservare un particolare si un suo dipinto Giuditta decapita Oloferne mente in basso sono presenti le date 1511 – 2011. A destra è impressa la scritta SAN MARINO e le iniziali dell’autrice Claudia Momoni mentre a sinistra quella G. VASARI, sulla sinistra la R della zecca di Roma.

Giuditta e Oloferne è un dipinto di Giorgio Vasari del 1554 che rappresenta l'episodio biblico in cui Giuditta decapita Oloferne.

La vedova Giuditta abita nella città assediata dal Generale assiro Oloferne, lei entra con l'inganno nella sua tenda, lo tenta e lo fa ubriacare per poi decapitarlo.

Passiamo alla prossima moneta da 2 Euro Commemorativa della Slovacchia, la terza commemorativa. In particolare questa moneta è stata coniata nel 2011 in occasione del 20° Anniversario del gruppo di Visegard formato per l’appunto da Slovacchia, Repubblica Ceca, Polonia e Ungheria.

Al Dritto possiamo osservare proprio la rappresentazione delle mappe di questi stati. Sovrapposte rispetto alle cartine geografiche sono poi collocate le lettere “VIV” che stanno ad indicare proprio il gruppo di Visegard. In basso a sinistra è presente il millesimo di conio “2011” mentre in basso a destra la scritta “SLOVENSKO” accompagnata dalle iniziali dell’autore e il simbolo della Zecca di Kremnica “MK” (Mincovňa Kremnica).

In alto ad arco figura invece la scritta VYŠEHRADSKÁ SKUPINA • VISEGRAD GROUP” “15.2.1991”. La moneta sul bordo più esterno presenta le classiche 12 stelle a cinque punte che rappresentano gli Stati dell’UE.

The coin in question was minted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of General Franc Rozman-Stane, commander of the partisan army during World War II and a national hero.

On the Obverse, there is a stylized portrait of the general with a five-pointed star in relief at the bottom. To the right of the portrait, there are two vertical inscriptions: FRANC ROZMAN STANE and “2011”, while horizontally it reads “1911 – 1944” and the inscription SLOVENIJA.

Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

On the Reverse, the coin is identical to any other 2 Euro coin.

Another Spanish €2 commemorative coin minted in 2011 that honors a historical monument. This time we are talking about the Court of the Lions of the Alhambra located in Granada. Issued on 21/02/2011.

On the Obverse, we can immediately notice a representation of the structure in all its magnificence. At the bottom, we can see the arching inscription ESPAÑA 2011 while at the top is the crowned M, which is none other than the symbol of the Madrid Mint.
Surrounding it are the usual twelve five-pointed stars representing the European States.

We return with a coin honoring the youth day. Specifically, this coin commemorates the XXVI day of Youth.

On the Obverse, some young people are depicted raising the official logo of the day, the Spanish flag, and the Vatican flag. At the bottom of the coin, we see the inscription “CITTA' DEL VATICANO” while at the top are the inscriptions “XXVI” and “G.M.G.” Additionally, within the design, the year of minting, the mint mark, and the initials of the designer “O.ROSSI” can be observed, while to the right are those of the engraver “M.C.C. INC.”.

All around, we find the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states, and on the Reverse, the same face as the other 2 Euro coins.
