The commemorative coin of 2012 was issued for Guimarães European Capital and for the first King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques.
This commemorative coin was presented on 21/06/2012.

On the Obverse, the stylized design of the King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, is engraved at the center, with the sword in the foreground and the castle of Guimarães in the background. On the left side, the Coat of Arms is engraved with the word PORTUGAL below it.
Below the castle on the right, the inscription Guimarães 2012 is engraved, with a heart symbolizing the event underneath.

At the bottom, the signature of the designer José de Guimarães is indicated, and on the left, the issuing country code INCM is present. The outer edge features twelve stars as a symbol of Europe.

As for the Reverse, it appears as the Common Side, which is the same for all 2 Euro coins.
