In 2016, the Commemorative coin dedicated to the Ponte 25 de Abril was issued to mark its 50th Anniversary. The coin was released on 19/07/2016.

On the Obverse of the 2 euro coin from Portugal in 2016, there is the Ponte 25 de Abril (Salazar Bridge until 1975), built in 1966 over the Tagus River to connect Lisbon and Almada. The bridge is depicted in perspective, and to the right of the coin, the inscription PORTUGAL is engraved, with the Coat of Arms of Portugal below it.
Below the bridge, also on the right, is the denomination PONTE / 25 DE ABRIL / 1966 / 2016.
At the bottom of the coin along the edge of the central disc, there are: on the left the mint mark INCM, and on the right the signature of the designer JOSÉ AURÉLIO.

Surrounding it are the 12 five-pointed stars forming a circle (Symbol of Europe).

On the Reverse, there is the Common Side with the nominal value of 2 euros engraved.

The edge features seven castles and five coats of arms.
