Among the most important Maltese commemorative coins is undoubtedly this €2 Commemorative Malta 2014 coin. Specifically, it was minted to commemorate Malta's independence.

On the Obverse, the coin depicts a woman, representing Malta, waving the Maltese flag. To the right, in an arc, is the inscription “MALTA – Independence 1964” while at the bottom is the year of minting.

Let’s move on to a coin of undeniable historical significance. Specifically, this coin was minted in 2015 to commemorate the proclamation of the Republic of Malta which took place on December 13, 1974.

On the Obverse, the coin features a depiction of a marble plaque affixed to the facade of the Presidential Palace in Valletta in honor of the Republic. At the top right, the circular inscription “Malta – Republic 1974” is engraved, while at the bottom, the year of minting is present.

Only in the FDC Coincard is the mintmark present, while all coins feature the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.

As for the Reverse, it is practically identical to the other 2 Euro coins found in Europe.

The €2 coin we are discussing was minted in 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first flight from Malta.

On the Obverse, there is a very characteristic representation of the seaplane piloted by Captain Kilmer, which took off from the Grand Harbour of Valletta on February 13, 1915, landing in the waters of the harbor after 55 minutes of flight. In the background, you can also see the tip of Senglea, one of the most distinctive features of the Grand Harbour.

At the top, there is a circular inscription “FIRST FLIGHT FROM MALTA” immediately followed on the right by the arch dates “1915 – 2015”. Within the design, just below the seaplane, is the inscription “100th anniversary” while further below are the initials of the designer NGB (Noel Galea Bason).

The coin we are about to discuss was minted in 2015 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the European Flag.

On the Obverse, the coin features the Flag of the European Union surrounded by 12 human figures representing the member states and the creation of a new Europe. It is particularly interesting to note that the design was chosen through an online survey by European citizens. At the top, the word “MALTA” is present, while to the right of the design are the dates “1985 – 2015”. Also to the right, perfectly positioned between the dates and the design, are the symbols of the Utrecht mint and that of the mint director.

At the bottom are the initials of the designer. The entire outer part is filled with 12 five-pointed stars representing the states of the European Union.

Let's move on to a coin from the following year, 2016. Specifically, this €2 coin was minted to commemorate the temples of Gigantia located on the smaller island of Gozo and dating back to 3600 BC.

On the Obverse, the coin depicts the archaeological site, with the inscription GGANTIJIA TEMPLES above it arranged in two lines, along with the dates “3800 – 3200 BC” below.

At the bottom of the design, the initials of the designer NGB appear, and even lower is the inscription MALTA along with the year of minting.

This specific coin also has variants that include the mint mark or the letter F indicating France. As usual, the outer part features the 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the European states.

We arrive at one of the most touching coins in the entire collection. Specifically, this 2 Euro Commemorative Malta 2016 Love coin was designed (the original design) by Sarah Cilia, a student from the secondary school participating in the “From children in Solidarity” program promoted by the Malta Community Chest Fund.

On the Obverse, the coin features two hands forming a heart with the reproduction of the Maltese coat of arms inside.

On the wrists of the two hands, there are two figures depicted that complete them like bracelets.

Surrounding them are the 12 stars symbolizing the European states.

On the Reverse, the coin is identical to all other 2 Euro coins.

The 2 Euro Commemorative Malta 2017 coin in question was minted to commemorate the Ħaġar Qim Temples, a prehistoric complex located in the southern part of the island and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the Obverse, the coin features the prehistoric complex with the inscription “Ħaġar Qim Temples” written in two lines. Just below, the dates “3600 – 3200 BC” are engraved.

Also to the right, at the bottom, are the initials of the designer NGB, while at the bottom left is the inscription MALTA along with the year of minting. In this case, there is also a variant of the coin that features the mint mark or the F symbolizing France.

Let's move on to another commemorative coin. Specifically, this €2 coin from Malta was minted in 2017 to commemorate Peace.

On the Obverse, the coin features two children holding the Peace flag with their hands. Above them, a dove, another symbol of Peace, is also depicted. Another coin that represents an ancient artifact. Specifically, this €2 Commemorative Malta 2018 coin was minted in honor of the prehistoric complex of Mnajdra, located not far from that of Ħaġar Qim.

On the Obverse, the coin depicts the prehistoric complex, while above, oriented to the right, is the inscription “MNAJDRA TEMPLES”. Just below are the dates “3600 – 2500 BC”. Also facing downwards, on the right side, are the initials of the designer NGB. At the bottom left is the inscription MALTA with the year of minting below it. There are also alternative versions with the mint mark and the letter F representing France.

The penultimate commemorative 2 Euro coin from Malta was minted in 2018 to pay tribute to solidarity towards cultural heritage.

On the Obverse, the coin features a depiction of a prehistoric Maltese temple with a sun above and two structures: one with a dome and a bell tower. Below, a boat with the Maltese flag sails through the waters.

Above the temple is the inscription MALTA, while below is the year of minting. The designer of the original drawing is Nicole Dimech, a secondary school student participating in the “From children in Solidarity” program promoted by the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Finally, we have arrived at the last coin. Specifically, this 2 Euro coin was minted in 2019 to commemorate the Temples of Ta Hagrat.

On the Obverse, the coin features the prehistoric complex of Ta Hagrat. At the top, the inscription “TA HAGRAT” is structured in two lines, while below are engraved the dates “3600 – 3000 BC”. In the bottom right, the initials of the designer NGB are included, along with the inscription MALTA and the year of minting. It is important to note that there is a variant with the letter F included in the star lower down.

Surrounding the design are the classic 12 stars representing the member states of the European Union.

On the Reverse, the coin is the same as the others, featuring the representation of Europe.

The €2 commemorative coin from Malta issued in 2019 is dedicated to Nature and Environment as part of the project “From children in Solidarity” promoted by the Malta Community Chest Fund. It was issued on 21/10/2019.

On the Obverse, there is a stylized depiction of an apple tree with a cloud on the left and the sun on the right with long rays. At the bottom left, the word Malta is printed in lowercase along with the year of minting 2019.

The Obverse features the representation of traditional children's games from Malta, such as spinning tops, marbles, kites, passju (the bell with numbers and chalk), and the bees from the famous Maltese children's song. The 2 Euro commemorative coin Malta 2022 Erasmus is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme, which is the European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. This programme was established on June 15, 1987 and is named after the Dutch humanist and theologian Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam, who traveled throughout Europe during his lifetime to learn about its diverse cultures.
