These 2 Euro Commemorative Vatican 2020 coins are dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Pope John Paul II. Karol Józef Wojtyla was born in 1920, became Pope on October 16, 1978, and remained in office until April 2, 2005. Issued on 06/23/2020.

On the Obverse of the coin, there is a portrait of Pope Wojtyla on the right with the dates 1920 2020, and the mint mark R.
On the left, there is the inscription PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II and the Basilica of Wadowice in Poland beneath the depiction of the lunar eclipse within the star of the Virgin Mary. The eclipse is indeed a phenomenon that occurred both on the day of his birth and the day of his death, which is why it has become a symbol of this beloved Pope.

The signatures of the authors are below the Basilica, while at the bottom is depicted a laurel branch and the inscription CITTÀ DEL VATICANO.
In the nickel ring of the coin, the 12 European stars are arranged in a circle.
