Cyprus €2 Pafo 2017 — Value and Rarity

We arrive at what is probably one of the most interesting coins in this collection. In particular, we are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative coin minted in 2017 on the occasion of the nomination of Pafo as the European Capital of Culture.

Pafo is an ancient port city located at the western tip of Cyprus, which was known in antiquity for the presence of a sanctuary dedicated to Aphrodite, who, according to tradition, was born right here.

Returning to the coin, on the Obverse we can observe a representation of the ancient Odeon of Pafo, a modest-sized amphitheater dating back to the 2nd century BC. The complex today hosts summer performances and representations of music and theater.

At the bottom, we can see the inscription “ΚΥΠΡΟΣ KIBRIS” while at the top, in an arch, the inscription “Πάφος 2017 — Πολιτιστική πρωτεύουσα Ευρώπης” (Pafo 2017 — European Capital of Culture).

All around are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states.
