In 2019, a commemorative coin was dedicated to one of the greatest Flemish painters of the 1500s, Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The commemorative was issued on 1/03/2019.

On the Obverse, there is a profile of Pieter Bruegel the Elder facing left, with a painting easel on the left background featuring one of his most famous works, “The Tower of Babel“. At the top in a semicircle is his name P.BRUGEL, and below, between the easel and the portrait, the year of his death and the year of minting of the coin 1569+ 2019.

On the left side of the coin, arranged in three lines, are the coat of arms of Herzele, which is the symbol of the Mint Director Ingrid van Herzele, the Belgian initials BE, and finally the symbol of the Utrecht Mint, a caduceus.
Along the outer circle of the bimetallic coin, stars are drawn forming the circle, the logo of the European Union.

The Reverse is the opposite side of the coin with the face value of 2 euros, the so-called Common Side which is the same for all commemoratives.
