Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2007 – VERDRAGVAN ROME – 50° Treaties of Rome
The very first coin we are going to analyse is not only important for the Netherlands but for the whole of Europe. It is the coin minted in 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. The coin features the same design and will be translated into as many languages as there are European countries in which it circulates.
On the obverse side of the 2-euro Holland 2007, we can see the open treaties signed by the six founding Member States, with the word “EUROPE” written in large letters.
In the background is a marvellous representation of the pavement of the Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo, where the Treaties were signed.
At the bottom of the coin, the year ‘2007’ is inscribed between the symbol of the Utrecht Mint and the symbol of the Mint Master. Further down is the inscription ‘KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN’.
At the top, in an arc and on two lines, are engraved the phrases “VERDRAGVAN ROME” “50 JAAR”. All around are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European countries.
On the reverse, the Common Face of the 2-euro Holland coins. It is also important to note that this is the first coin minted by the Utrecht Mint to feature the second type of Common Face with the modified map.
The coin is included in the divisional FS, in a FDC Coincard and in the BENELUX set.

Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2009 – EMU 1999-2009
Let’s move on to the next coin. Specifically, this 2 Euro Commemorative Coin of the Netherlands was minted in 2009 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union.
As we can see, on the obverse there is a representation of a primitive, stylised figure with the Euro symbol on its side. The significance of this design is that the Euro represents the final stage in the economic journey of European citizens.
It is also important to note that the design of the 2-euro Netherlands 2009 was chosen by European citizens themselves in an online poll.
Above the design is the arched inscription ‘NEDERLAND’ and below that ‘EMU. 1999-2009″.
On the outermost edge are the 12 stars representing the European States. If you pay attention to the sixth star, you will see that it is enclosed between the symbol of the Utrecht Mint (right) and that of the Mint Master (left).
As for the reverse side, this is, of course, nothing more than the common side, which is the same for all 2-euro coins.

Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2011 – Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden
We now come to the first coin minted in honour of a historical figure. The 2-euro coin Commemorative of Holland was minted in 2011 in honour of Erasmus of Rotterdam, a Dutch theologian, philosopher, humanist and essayist.
The coin naturally commemorates not only the author but also his most famous work, The Praise of Folly, on the 500th anniversary of its publication.
On the obverse side of the 2 euro Netherlands 2011 we can see Erasmus himself, facing left, writing his book. To the left of the author is the effigy of Queen Beatrix.
Between the faces of the two persons are engraved the words ‘Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden’ or ‘Beatrix Queen of the Netherlands’. Directly above the hand of Erasmus, the one intent on writing, we can see the symbol of the Utrecht Mint and that of the Mint Master next to each other with the minting year ‘2011’ immediately below.
All around, distributed on the outer crown, are the classic 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European states.
On the obverse side, however, the coin has the same face as the other 2-euro coins, the Common Face.
The coin is included in the divisional FS, in a Coincard FDC, in a Cofanetto FS and in the annual set BENELUX.

Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2012 – Nederland 2002-2012
Let’s return to a type of coin that is also common to other European countries. Specifically, this 2-euro Commemorative Coin of the Netherlands was minted in 2012 to mark 10 years of Euro banknotes and coins.
On the obverse, we can see the Euro symbol perfectly placed in the centre of the globe to indicate the centrality and importance of the currency for Europe. All around there are various other elements that reinforce this concept.
We can, for example, see the factory representing industry, the ship for trade, the wind turbines for energy and, of course, the people representing European citizens.

Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2013 – 200 years of the Kingdom of Holland
Let’s turn again to a coin that, in this case, highlights an important event for the country in question. We are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative coin minted in 2013 to celebrate 200 years of the Kingdom of Holland.
On the obverse, we can see a magnificent depiction of the faces of all seven kings of Holland who have ascended the throne over the last 200 years, joined together by a ribbon.
The inscription ‘WILLEM – ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN’ and ‘200 JAAR KONINKRIJK’ are engraved in an arc around this representation. At the bottom of the coin is the minting year ‘2013’, with the mintmark of the Utrecht Mint and the mintmaster’s mark next to it.
All around the coin are the 12 stars representing the European states.

Netherlands 2 Euro Coins 2013 – Double Beatrix
The next coin is also from the same year as the previous one, 2013. Specifically, this 2 Euro Commemorative coin was minted to commemorate the coronation of His Highness William Alexander as successor to Queen Beatrix on 30 April 2013.
On the obverse we can see the faces of the two sovereigns facing to the left, with Beatrice in front and William Alexander behind.
At the bottom is the inscription ’28 JANUARI’ and all around that ‘Willem-Alexander prins van Oranje – Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden’.
Also at the bottom centre is the year mark enclosed between the symbol of the Utrecht mint and that of the mint master. On the outer edge we can see the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States.
The reverse side is identical to that of any other common 2-euro coin, showing the common face.

The next coin among the 2 euro holland is really very special. Like the one just seen, in fact, this 2 Euro Commemorative Coin of Holland was minted to celebrate Queen Beatrix and His Highness William Alexander in 2014.
As we can see on the obverse of this coin, however, in this case, the faces have been reversed both as regards the reverse, they are turned to the right instead of the left, and as regards the order.
Whereas on the previous coin the face of Queen Beatrix is superimposed over that of William Alexander, in this case it is the latter who is above the former Queen.
Around the arch we can see the inscription ‘Willem-Alexander Koning der Nederlanden – Beatrix Prinses der Nederlanden’ and the minting year ‘2014’ enclosed again between the symbol of the Utrecht Mint and that of the Mint Director.
The outermost edge features the usual 12 five-pointed stars representing the European countries, while the reverse shows the classic face common to all 2-euro coins.
This specific coin is included in the Divisional FS, in a Coincard FDC, in a Coincard UNC, in a FS Box Set and in a Set with 4 FS coins of which 3 with coloured crown (1 red, 1 white and 1 blue > the colours of the Dutch flag).

This is a coin common to all European countries, with a representation of the European flag in the centre on the obverse. All around the flag are 12 stylised human figures representing the union of citizens and states in the construction of a new and better Europe.
At the top we can see the inscription “NEDERLAND” and on the right the dates “1985 – 2015”. Also on the right-hand side, between the flag and the dates, are the symbol of the Utrecht Mint and that of the Mint Master.
