1000 Lire Commemorative Silver Coins
Updated:
Since 1994, the Italian Republic has minted 1000 lire coins in 835‰ silver to commemorate significant events and personalities. Their issuance is for the numismatic market, and despite being legal tender, they have never circulated. Perhaps this is why they are so sought after by collectors.
The commemorative thousand lire in silver of the Italian Republic total 11, have a diameter of 31.4 millimeters and a weight of 14.6 grams.
These coins are obviously different from the standard bimetallic 1000 Lire of the Italian Republic, which we discussed here: 1000 Lire Italia Turrita. They are similar but much later than the thousand lire coin of Rome Capital, which you can find here: 1000 Lire Roma Capitale
Now we will look at all these silver 1000 lire coins in detail to discover if there are any rare coins among them.
Note that in the year 1994, three different types of commemorative 1000 lire coins in silver were minted.
On the edge of the three thousand lire coins from 1994, R.I. is embossed, between a five-pointed star, an oak leaf, and a laurel leaf, all repeated three times.
