Austria’s first 2 Euro commemorative coin was minted in 2005 on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Austrian State Treaty signed in 1955.

As we can immediately see in the Obverse, the 2 Euro Austria 2005 coin shows in the background, finely represented, the Austrian flag covered by the seals of the 9 signatories of the Treaty. Specifically, the signatories were the Foreign Ministers John Foster Dulles for the United States of America, Vjačeslav Molotov for the Soviet Union, Antoine Pinay for France, Harold Macmillan for the United Kingdom and Leopold Figl as Austrian Foreign Minister.

In addition, the High Commissioners of the occupying powers such as Geoffrey Arnold Wallinger for the United Kingdom, Ivan Il’ičov for the Soviet Union, Llewellyn E. Thompson Jr. for the United States and Roger Lalouette for France signed.

In addition to the seals we can see at the top the inscription “50 JAHRE STAATSVERTRAG” or “50 years of the State Treaty”, at the bottom left the thousandth of minting and all around the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States.

The reverse side of the coin has the same face as all other 2 Euro coins.

The coin is included in the FDC Divisional, FS Divisional and in philatelic-numismatic envelopes.

The second 2 Euro commemorative Austrian coin was minted two years after the first, in 2007, in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, signed in 1957 to establish the European Economic Community (EEC) and EURATOM.

On the obverse, the 2 euro Austria 2007 coin features the Treaties signed by the six member states, with the Europa inscription in the centre of the coin.
In the background we can see the pavement of Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome where the Treaties were signed on 25 March 1957.

At the top there is an arched inscription placed on two lines. Specifically, the inscription is “VERTRAG VON ROM, 50 JAHRE”.
At the bottom instead is placed the thousandth of minting followed in turn by another inscription: “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria”.
All around are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States.
It is important to specify that this is the first coin minted by the Vienna Mint to bear the second type of common face.

The reverse is the common face of the 2 euro coins.

The coin is included in the FDC Divisional and the FS Divisional.

We now move on to Austria’s third Austrian commemorative 2 euro coins, the coin minted in 2009 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union.

On the obverse the 2 Euro Austria 2009 coin shows a fairly explanatory design. Specifically it is a primitive human figure with the Euro symbol on the side. This means that the Euro represents the last stage in the history of trade. It is important to note that the design was chosen by European citizens through an online survey.

At the top we can see the writing “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria” and at the bottom the writing “WWU 1999-2009”. (Wirtschafts-und Währungsunion). If one looks closely one can also see the author’s initials ‘ΓΣ’ engraved just above the year 2009.

All around the coin features the classic 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states, while on the reverse side it is identical to all the other 2 Euro coins.

The next coin that we are going to analyse was minted in 2012 in honour of 10 years of the introduction of Euro notes and coins.

On the obverse of the 2 Euro Austria 2012 coin we can see engraved the Euro symbol, placed perfectly in the center of the globe with all around the representation of various elements. Specifically, we note the people (which indicate how important the Euro is for the citizens), the ship (which represents trade), the factory (which represents industry) and the wind turbines that naturally represent energy.

Again, the design was chosen by EU citizens through an online survey.

Above is the arched inscription “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria” and below it the dates “2002 – 2012”.

All around as always there are the 12 five-pointed stars that represent the European States, while the Verso la faccia is identical to that of the other 2 Euro coins.

Instead, the reverse depicts the common face of the two euro coins.

The coin is included in the BU Divisional, the BU Divisional “Baby” and the FS Divisional.

Coin minted in 2015 in honour of the 30th anniversary of the European Flag.

On the Obverse we can see the representation of the European flag, placed in the centre, which symbolises the union of peoples and cultures that share common ideals. All around the flag there are twelve stylized human figures representing the citizens of the European Union.

The design for this coin is the result of an online survey, open to European citizens.

At the top right is engraved the inscription “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria” accompanied by the dates “1985 – 2015”.

At the bottom right are the initials of the author while, as usual, all around we can see the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States.

On the reverse side of the 2 euro commemorative coins Austria 2015 coin shows the same side as all other 2 Euro coins, the Common side.

The coin is only available in circulation.

The second to last coin in this interesting collection is the 2 Euro Commemorative Coin of Austria minted in 2016 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Austrian National Bank.

At the obverse of the 2 Euro coin Austria 2016 we can immediately see represented two figures from Roman mythology. Specifically we speak of Mercury (placed on the left) messenger of the gods and god of merchants and trade and on the left Fortune, goddess of chance and prosperity, represented with the characteristic cornucopia in her hand.

Specifically, the two gods are represented in a bas-relief above the entrance to the headquarters of the Austrian National Bank (OeNB).
At the bottom, under the feet of the two gods, there is an ornamental band that evokes the characteristic colors of the Austrian flag (red-white-red).
At the top there is the inscription “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria” while at the bottom there is the 200 JAHRE OESTERREICHISCHE NATIONALBANK”.

Finally, next to the gods are engraved the dates “1816 – 2016”.

All around as always there are the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European States while the reverse is the same as the other 2 euro commemorative coins Austria.

The coin is included in the BU Divisional, the BU Divisional “Baby” and the FS Divisional.

Finally here we come to the last coin of this collection (at least for the moment). Specifically, this 2 Euro coin commemorating Austria is being minted in 2018 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Republic.

On the obverse of the 2 Euro Austria 2018 coin we can see a wonderful design representing the statue of Pallas Athena with, in the background, the neoclassical building of the European Parliament in Vienna.

Athena’s choice is not random at all. She is the goddess of wisdom, the embodiment of wisdom, intellect and reason which symbolizes the Austrian Parliament.

To the left of the goddess is the thousandth of minting with, immediately below, the inscription “100 JAHRE” . At the bottom right hand side there is the writing “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” or “Republic of Austria”.

As usual, the coin has 12 five-pointed stars around it, representing the European states. In the reverse we see instead of the classic face of all the 2 Euro coins.

The coin is included in the BU Divisional, the BU Divisional “Baby” and the FS Divisional.
