The first German 2 euro commemorative coin was minted in 2006 and was dedicated by a German country: Schleswig-Holstein, one of the 16 German federal states. Issued on 3/2/2006.

At the obverse, in the central brass part, the city gate Holstentor Lübeck is depicted in its majestic late-Gothic red brick construction, the only remaining gate of the city walls. Under the inscription SCHLESWIG- HOLSTEIN on two lines, on the right the signature of the engraver Heinz Hoyer and on the left the mint symbol A/D/F/G/J.

In the outer part of the coin are engraved in the upper semi-circle the 12 European stars separated at the top from the thousandth 2006 in two blocks of 6 stars each, instead in the lower semi-circle is engraved in relief the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND (Federal Republic of Germany).

On the reverse side there is the Common Face in use in 2006 with the map of European countries marked by borders.

On the obverse, inside the brass and nickel-plated brass rod, the frontal perspective of the Schwerin Castle symbol of the city with the inscription MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN underneath. At the top the mint symbol letter (A/D/F/G/J) and at the bottom center the two letters HH as signature of the engraver Heinz Hoyer.

In the outer ring of the coin, the one made of copper and nickel, are distributed in the upper part two blocks of 6 stars each, separated by the thousandth of minting 2007, under a semicircle the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND which means Federal Republic of Germany.

On the reverse, the Common Face, is placed the new map of Europe, extended to the new countries, and without borders between the various states.

In 2009 also in Germany, as in other European countries, the Commemoration for Economic and Monetary Union (WWU) was issued. Issued in Germany on 5/01/2009.

On the obverse of this 2 euro Germany coin stands out the primitive figure joined to the euro symbol and inscribed inside a rough coinage with the initials of the contest winner ΓΣ (Georgios Stamatopoulos).

This subject was in fact chosen through an online competition that was, of course, extended to all citizens of European Union countries. On January 31, 2008 it was chosen to commemorate ten years of Economic and Monetary Union.

At the bottom “half moon” there are the initials WWU 1999-2009, on the right the mint symbol (A/D/F/G/J) and at the top BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND (Federal Republic of Germany). All around are engraved in a circle the 12 5-pointed stars as in the European flag.

On the right the initials of the engraver Friedrich Brenner FB, below the ground line the inscription SAARLAND and the symbol of the German Mint that minted the coin (A/D/F/G/J).

As far as the external part of the commemoration is concerned, in the lower semicircle there is the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, for the Federal Republic of Germany in German. In the upper semicircle there are the twelve stars, European symbol, divided into two groups of 6 and separated by the thousandth 2009 placed at the top center of the coin.

On the obverse side of this 2 euro Germany coin, in the central brass ring there is engraved in the foreground on the left the statue dedicated to the protector of the city of Bremen, Orlando with the inscription BREMEN on the right and the initials of Bodo Broschat (engraver) at the bottom under the central plinth. Behind the statue’s shoulders is the majestic Renaissance Gothic facade of Bremen City Hall with the symbol of Germany D at the top left.

At the top in a semicircle is the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND 1985-2015. On the right the letter symbol of the mint issuing office, then one between A/D/F/G/J.

The commemorative coin of 2019 has been placed in honour of the German Federal Council, the well-known Bundesrat, an important place for Berlin and for Germany as a whole. The building was built in 1904 and today houses the Ministry of Finance. Issued on 29/01/2019.

Let’s start from the face to the obverse, this offers a frontal view of the square in front of the Bundesrat with the fountain and the facade of the building. BUNDESRAT above the letter D, German initials. At the top we find the mint year 2019, below the thousandth, on the left, the mint symbol (A/D/F/G/J) and on the right the signature of Michael Otto, engraver.

Around the central nickel and brass ring are the 12 5-pointed stars arranged in a circle as in the symbol of Europe.

The reverse side is the value side, i.e. the common face of the 2 euro coins and commemorative coins.

We are staying in Berlin because the second German two euro commemoration of 2019 is also dedicated to this city, specifically to the fall of the Berlin Wall in its 30th Anniversary. Drawing by Joaquin Jimenez, issue of 10/10/2019.

In fact we see that at the obverse of these 2 euro Germany is represented the gap crossed by three doves, as a symbol of peace, doves flying above exultant hands raised to the sky. On the right is drawn the Brandenburg Gate and on the left a part of the wall with the inscription 30 JAHRE MAUERFALL. Under the hands of the crowd is the thousandth of minting 2019. On the right the initials of Germany D and on the left the letter identifying the mint headquarters between (A/D/F/G/J).

Around the central design the twelve stars of Europe are distributed in a circle. The reverse is instead characterised by the Common Face. with the nominal value of the coin.

Year 2020 and Brandenburg is the location of the German commemorative coin issued for the Sanssouci Palace and the Park in front of it. Bimetallic coin issued on 28/01/2020. (Sans Souci means “without worries”).

To the right the facade of the Sanssouci Palace in perfect Rococo style with the large fountain and the majestic marble staircase that crosses the Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. Building of the mid 1700’s summer residence of Frederick II the Great, King of Prussia. The hill on which it was built is planted with vineyards. Under the fountain is the capital lettering BRANDENBURG and the symbol of Germany D. At the top of the coin is engraved the year 2020, on the right the signature of the engraver Jordi Truxa and on the left the letter of one of the German offices of the issuing Mint (A/D/F/G/J).

In the outer circle the stars as a symbol of Europe.

The verse, as usual, has the common face of the other European Commemorative coins.

2020 will also see the birth of the commemorative coin dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Warsaw’s kneeling. Spontaneous gesture made on 7 December 1970 by Chancellor Willy Brandt visiting the Monument to the Heroes of the Ghetto in Warsaw, Poland. (Willy Brandt was in Poland for the signing of the Warsaw Treaty).

A realistic, almost photographic representation of the painful historical moment designed by the author “Bodo Broschat” who won the competition for these 2 euro Commemorative Germany 2020.

At the obverse of the 2 Euro Germany 2020, or National Face, the representation of the genuflection seen three quarters with a 7-armed candlestick in the foreground, one of the two candlesticks on either side of the “Monument to the Heroes of the Ghetto” which we see represented at the top of the steps on the right. Between the first and second step there is also a commemorative wreath with the state symbol D of Germany underneath.

At the top left of the candelabrum the inscription in a semicircle 50 JAHRE KNIEFALL and at the bottom under the toe of the shoes and coat is engraved the inscription VON WARSCHAU, the term Kniefall von Warschau refers to the gesture of humility and penitence of Willy Brandt , Chancellor of West Germany, towards the victims of the Warsaw Ghetto revolt. Also on the left is the year 2020 and the letter symbol of the Mint A/D/F/G/J.

Some additional details about German 2 euro coin 2020

The uprising inside was an act of Jewish resistance that took place 1943 inside the Warsaw Ghetto in a Poland occupied by the Germans during the Second World War.

An act that served to counter the efforts of Nazi Germany to transport all the remaining population of the ghetto to the concentration camps of Majdanek and Treblinka. After the Great Warsaw Operation in the summer of 1942, an operation in which more than a quarter of a million Jews were deported from the ghetto to Treblinka to be killed.

The revolt began on 19 April when the Jews in the ghetto refused to surrender to the orders of SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop, who then ordered the immediate burning down of the ghetto itself, block after blockade. The extermination on 16 May counted 13,000 Jews as victims, about half of whom were burned alive or suffocated. It was the biggest single revolt of the Jews during the whole Second World War.

In the outer ring of the bimetallic coin are circularly distributed the stars, twelve, symbol of the European countries.

The reverse, or value side, is represented by the Common Face, equal for all the 2 euro coins.

This commemorative coin will be issued on 8 October 2020 with a hypothetical circulation of 30,000,000 copies. It will be issued 28 years after Willy Brandt’s death.

Here we are at the 2 Euro Commemorative coin Germany 2021 Magdeburg Cathedral dedicated once again to an architectural work. It is part of the series dedicated to the German States General. The Cathedral is dedicated to St Catherine and St Maurice.

The obverse depicts Magdeburg Cathedral, which holds the distinction of being the first Gothic cathedral in Germany. Beneath the Cathedral is the inscription SACHSEN – ANHALT with the state symbol D (Germany) underneath. On the right the engraver’s signature On the left the mint mark (A/D/F/G/J) and on the top left the year of issue 2021.

The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union arranged in a circle.
