The symbol of the Mint of Rome is on the right of the portrait of Pope Ratzinger and the thousandth under the R. In the part of the brass coin instead there are the 12 stars with 5 points.
Until 2007, the common face was the one with the map of states marked by borders. Since 2008, the new Common Face with the United States has been in use.

The 1 euro coin from the Vatican City of the Fourth Series, also bimetallic, was minted from 2014 to 2016 and dedicated to Pope Francis.
In the nickel part, on the obverse of the coin, is represented the face of the smiling Pope. To the left of the portrait there is the inscription “CITTA’ DEL” and instead to the right “VATICANO”. On the shoulders of the Pope, one on the right and one on the left, there are the names of the engraver and the sculptor.
Looking at the right of the coin there is the symbol R of the Mint and underneath the thousandth of minting. On the outside of the coin, the brass one, there are 12 stars to symbolize the European Union.

The inscription CITTA’ DEL VATICANO (VATICAN CITY) is engraved around the coat of arms of the Pope and at the bottom right is written the thousandth of minting, while on the left is engraved the symbol of the Mint of Rome.

Here is the first series of 2 Euro bimetallic coins from Vatican City, dedicated to Karol Józef Wojtyła. This series was minted in 2002 and ended in 2005, the year of the death of Pope John Paul II.
On the straight side, in the brass part of the coin, is engraved the profile of Pope Wojtyła who looks to the left. On the right of the coin, behind the Pope, there is the signature of the author and that of the engraver GV. UP INC.
Below, in the circle in Nickel, the inscription: CITTA ‘DEL VATICANO followed by the thousandth of minting and the symbol R of the Mint. At the top, along the edge of the outer ring, the twelve five-pointed stars are distributed in a semicircle.

Keep in mind that the 2 euro Vatican of the first series are really well evaluated. The 2 euro Vatican Coin of the year 2002 is the most expensive piece, worth more than 170 euro. The 2 euro from 2003 are worth more than 55 euros, while the 2 euros from 2004 and 2005 are worth just under 50 euros.

After the death of Pope Wojtyła in 2005, the Second Series of this 2 Euro Vatican coin, known as the series of the “Vacant Seat”, was temporarily minted.
In the middle, in the brass part, there is the coat of arms of the Cardinal Camerlengo and the emblem of the Apostolic Chamber. Around it is written: SEDE VACANTE MMV. A. Below, in the cupronickel circle, there is the inscription: CITTA’ DEL VATICANO. At the top, always on the outer ring, are imprinted with the 12 5-pointed stars as a symbol of the European Union.

The third series of the 2 euro coin from the Vatican City is dedicated to Pope Ratzinger. The series was minted from 2006 until 2013, in fact, in 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation from the Papacy.
In the brass part of the central disk on the obverse is the half-length face of the Pope, on the right of the portrait is engraved the inscription: CITTA’ DEL VATICANO.
