The bust of Costanza Bonarelli is a marble sculpture created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1637/1638, standing 72 cm tall. It is currently displayed at the Museum of Bargello. This is the only work by Bernini created not on commission.

Costanza Bonarelli, wife of Matteo Bonarelli from Lucca, a student of Bernini, was Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s secret lover. However, Bernini’s brother, Luigi, also secretly had a relationship with Costanza. Blinded by jealousy, Gian Lorenzo attempted to kill his brother Luigi and ordered a punitive disfigurement of Costanza’s face. Thanks to his family’s connections, Bernini faced minimal consequences for his actions.
