50 Cents 2007

50 cents 2007

To begin, let me ask you a question: Have you ever held a 50 cent coin from 2007 in your hands?

Instinctively, you might say: “Well… of course, it must have happened!”

The correct answer, I’m sorry to tell you, is: “Almost certainly NEVER!”

Let’s find out why…

The mintage of the 2007 50 cent coin is 4,994,490 pieces minted.  Therefore, even just looking at the mintage, it is clear that it cannot be considered a rare 50 cent coin.

Despite the numbers being clear, it is considered one of the hardest coins to find in circulation!

The majority of 50 cent coins found in our pockets are from 2002. Finding one from 2007 has become a real mission for many Italian and foreign numismatists.

But how is it possible that a coin with such a high mintage is so hard to find?

Collectors have different hypotheses:

  • Some suggest it is due to its uneven distribution across the Italian territory (distributed only in certain areas).
  • Others believe that they have not yet been distributed and that sooner or later they will appear.
  • Then there are those who are convinced that fewer were produced than declared.
  • Finally, the conspiracy theorists, who think that not only were fewer produced but that they are also hidden in vaults by a select few.

In light of all these theories, all that remains is for you to check your pockets to see if you are one of the lucky few who unknowingly hold a coin deemed “Unfindable”

But how much is the 2007 50 Cent Coin worth?

  • Currently, the value of the 2007 50 Cent Coin at retail can vary from 2 euros to 10€ if in FDC quality.

Remember that the value is indicative; it always depends on the coin’s condition and history. Therefore, it can vary over time. Coins should always be individually appraised by expert numismatists.

Here you will find the complete list of all Rare 50 Cent Coins minted by the countries that use the Euro.

50 Cents Italian (Lire)

Italian coin collections in the numismatic world have always had significant value, especially due to the rarity of rare lire coins and the beauty of some specimens.  The 50 cents Italian coins of Vittorio Emanuele III were among the most beautiful, as he was also called “The Numismatic King” because of his passion for collecting.

Let’s take a look at some coins from this historical period.

50 Cents 1940

50 Cents Lire Vittorio Emanuele III
50 Cents Lire Vittorio Emanuele III “Empire”

The coin of 50 cents Vittorio Emanuele III is one of the most common coins from the Kingdom of Italy.

Over 19 million specimens were minted in 1940.

On one side, there is a lateral depiction of an eagle with spread wings clutching a fascio. The word ITALIA is at the top of the coin, with the year of minting and the Fascist Era year on the left. At the bottom, there is the Savoy coat of arms between the value (C • 50). On the left side, there is the mintmark of Rome (R).

On the other side of the coin is the profile of King Vittorio Emanuele III, with the semicircular inscription: VITT • EMAN • III • RE • E • IMP •. At the bottom, along the edge, is the signature G • ROMAGNOLI.

Why 50 Cents 1940 Empire?

Why, even though it’s a common coin, is the 50 cents 1940 so talked about?

The year 1940 is notable because there were two different variants of the coin. One was produced using a pure acmonital alloy (highly magnetic), and the other used an alloy of acmonital and nickel (less magnetic). The curiosity lies in finding the “non-magnetic” coins, as they are considered more valuable.

50 Cents Vittorio Emanuele III 1940 Value

Magnetic or not, in any case, the market value of these circulated coins is not high.

However, if we talk about coins in perfect Brilliant Uncirculated condition, their value could range between 35€ / 90€, especially if it’s the non-magnetic variant. All values are listed in the table on the specific page you can view here: 50 Cents Lire.

50 Cents Vittorio Emanuele III 1937 1938

The rarest and hardest-to-find 50 cents of the Empire are from the years 1937 and 1938.

  • Year: 1937
  • Mintage: 50
  • Rarity: R3
  • Year: 1938
  • Mintage: 17
  • Rarity: R4
  • Year: 1938
  • Mintage: 3
  • Rarity: R5

Just observing the mintage numbers reveals the rarity of these coins and the potential valuation of these rare 50 cents.

How much are 50 Cents Vittorio Emanuele III from 1937 1938 worth?

To better understand the value of these rare coins, here are three notable auctions:

  • A coin from 1937 R3 was sold at auction in 2011 for 2,185€.
  • A coin from 1938 R4 was sold at auction in 2010 for 5,290€.
  • A coin from 1938 R5 (3 pieces minted) was sold at auction in 2013 for 21,850€.

In the last case, it was a trial coin with a smooth edge. Even with rare 50 cents coins, the old lire never fail to bring great satisfaction.
