Introduction to the Slovenian Euro Coins
Slovenian Euro Coins are adopted for the first time by this country on 1 January 2007.
However, its history as a member of the European Union begins well before that. In fact, it joined on 1 May 2004.
During the 90s this State was subject to great changes which also led to the modification of the, at that time, current currency.
In fact, with the independence of the Republic of Slovenia, obtained on 25 June 1991 and with the subsequent dissolution of Yugoslavia, the Slavic currency in force at that time, the Dinar, was replaced.
Aafter a few months, a new currency, typical of this country, took over. It was the Slovenian Tolar, which was legal tender until the entry of the Euro.
Slovenia was the first state in the east Europe to adopt the single currency.
Not owning a national mint, this nation has always relied on foreign factories to make the coins. To be more precise, they have been managed by the Finnish Mint (in 2007 and from 2009 to 20011), the Slovak Mint (from 2012 to 2013) and the Dutch Mint (from 2014 onwards).
Coins have no mint markings except for the 2007 coins, where the Finnish mint mark ‘FI’ is used as the identification mark. and those of 2008, in which there is a winged caduceus, symbol of the Dutch Mint of Utrecht.
The Slovenian Euro coins have a different design for each denomination and were made by the artists Miljenco Licul, Maja Licul and Janez Boljka.
